Germination in syringe: How long is storage still possible
    #5350141 - 02/28/06 04:17 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Well
A syringe of EQ I have been using now for months using 1CC at a time for LC->PF or Grains. I just kocked up another LC again using about 1CC and I noticed that there is myc inside the syringe. I could easily go for another long time before having to use more of the spores since I can go LC->LC and stuff like that, but I am wondering wether the syringe will still be ok in a few months like this? I know keeping spores that long is no problem but since there is myc in there I'm just wondering...

Also: Why do you guys think this even happens... there shouldn't really be any nutes in the syringe (its a vendor syringe not homemade) so how come the spores germinate...
weird.
anyone else get this?
Peace

yah it happens every once in a while, its no big deal. It should keep as long as a regular syringe does.

I had this happen. I put all the rest of my syringes in the refrigerator at 38oF and It appears that I will have no more trouble.

Same happened to me with a syringe of Golden Teachers. I kept it for a month or two, then inoculated and the germination-colonizing time was even better than with a regular spore syringe. No problem at all. Some time ago, I read that this may happen because of the nutes coming from the paper on which the spore prints come. Maybe some paper specks get to the syringe and the spores "colonize". Just an idea.
