TEMPERATURE QUESTIONS

hey guys,
im a newbie.i recently bought ALL the stuff i need for growing some delicious mushies , and i am worried about 1 thing - heat! i plan to set my jars in a box ontop of a dark airing cupboard ontop of the house heater - its around 30degrees Centigrade at time but fluctuates regularly to 20C - 30C will this damage or speed or have any effects on my precious babies?

Some of us older Americans never learned metric type measurements.

Maybe i should learn them....lolz

Anyway..... you should keep your jars at 84 to 86 degrees...if you can.

For P. Cubenesis the accepted optimal growth temperature for the mycelium is 86F or 30C. My sources are at home, but I belive that thermal death occurs at 106F, or 41C. As you get away from 30C, either hot or cold, the growth slows down. As long as you don't get too close to 41C or 0C you should be fine. Growth pretty much stops around/under 15C. As long as your space doesn't get too hot you should be fine.

I almost forgot... the mycelium gives off heat as it grows. The center of the cake can be a few degrees warmer than the air around the jars.

And Andy.....yes the growth will be slower with lower temps.
