Sounds of a Psychonaut
    #5347234 - 02/27/06 09:22 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

:mushroom2:Hey shroomery! I'm an aspiring musician, and although the majority of songs I write are metal/thrash, I do often write a nice sounding acoustic song.

Here's one I wrote the other day, so far its just an intsrumental and about 3 minutes long. 1 acoustic guitar, 1 electric(improvised solo on the track) and one bass.

http://s5.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2TTBV5ZEDWC2E1348DHEWWOCX3

Take a listen please, feedback is much appreciated, please feel free to bash if you think I suck. :crazy2:

:mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:"There is a world beyond ours, a world that is far away, nearby, and invisible. And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand.":mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:

Hey everyone, I decided to scrap the solo from that song, it didnt quite fit right at some parts, I also took out the bass.

So here it is, just 1 guitar....

thanks to anyone who takes the time to listen and gives some feedback.

if anyone has any lyric ideas feel free to add to the song.

Hey man, this is pretty good, but it would sound a lot better if the low end was a little brighter... it almost sounds like you've got a bass line under it, but it's just the low strings of your guitar.

Or, a simple metronome tap or REALLY basic drum beat would help hold it all together equally well.

I was inclined to try to write a vocal track for it, but without a strong rhythmic backbone, it would be hard to do.

If you feel like collaborating, feel free to re-make it with a metronome tap or a basic drum beat and I will see if I can come up with a nice vocal arrangement. (That is, if you want to, heh.)

P.S. the chorus rocks... I smell a lot of potential in this arrangement. I REALLY like the switch-up you do on the high-end at the end of the progression.

hmmm... well I don't know much of anything about drum programs... but I am willing to bet someone here can help you out.

How about it guys? What is the best option for free and simple-to-use drum programming?

Fruity Loops comes to mind, but I personally never liked the use of "sectors" or whatever you might call it instead of musical notation.

BTW, was this recorded with an electric or an acoustic? You mentioned that you wrote an acoustic piece, but the lack of brightness on the low end implies electric use.

One of the great things about actual acoustic guitars is that the low end remains bright and crisp with the high end, unifying the entire thing as one melody and rhythmic source.

There are probably ways to do that with an electric, but I don't know what they are

:mushroom2:ya it was recorded on a GNX 3 floor processor with an electric guitar, I just used an acoustic effect for the track. I might download fruity loops and try to put some drums behind it, but I dont know how good I Will be at that or not.
