Help needed very confused
    #534625 - 01/29/02 04:04 AM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Before I post this, please refrain from flaming me if it sounds stupid.  I have done quite a few searches, and done a fair bit of research before asking for this help.

OK, Here goes.

I want to grow mushrooms, and I want to do it in south-eastern Australia.

Relative humidity for the period I will be growing will be apx 50-70%.  Average temperature around 25 deg C.

I plan on using the method here.

I plan on using this method for my  incubator.

Now on to the questions

1) In the fruiting stage, do I have to keep the temperature at a constant temperature?  Or is it fine to just leave them to the ups and downs of the natural weather?

2) If they do have to be kept at a constant temperature, can I just modify the incubator I'm using to accept my terrarium to keep the temp constant?

Any other tips would be really helpful as this is all getting a bit daunting   I don't know whether it's cos it is very complex, or whether I've just read too many methods and it's confusing the absolute hell out of me.

Cheers.

1) Fluctuations in temperature are OK. The worst that can happen is they may slow down a bit with the cold. (nights)
2) Yes

I made the exact same incubator, it works very nice. I live in canada and here the temps in my room are 60-70degrees, its like 30 outside right now:p
Anyways, I have a pretty extreame setup, has insulation and everything. But its always a nice 80-85 regardles Just want you to know that you have it made compared to me, its hard keeping the temps up!

Wow, helpful responses and quickly!  Thanks guys

I'll ask another question (annoying aren't I  ) , is the link I provided the best method for me to be using?  I'd like something that doesn't cost too much, but isn't really time consuming either.  I'm thinking of going with the fish tank airstone for extra humidity.  Any thoughts?

The link you are going to use is a good one.

"I'm thinking of going with the fish tank airstone for extra humidity. Any thoughts?"

Yes that is a good way.
You could also use a cool mist humidifier.
Or you can use perilite.

OK, so if I use perilite, it would negate the need for the airstone? As the airstone does seem a bit of a hassle... (in construction of the terrarium).

Wet perlite is foolproof.

Being new, I could see the reason for going to the most cool setup you can do, fully automated...but I see tones of guys here use hardly anything and get awsome results. Like just perlite and regular fanning.
As for my setup, I have 2 jars with a 50w aquarium heater on either side of the 20gallon chamber, and works great, I always try to adjust it so that it gets the humidity it needs out of the same jars of water with the heaters are in.. its a little crowded though with the jars and they sometimes evaperate so much water that you haev to top the jars off with more water...pain in the ass
