Hows it going everyone. I've just been thinking a lot about going to college and what I want to do. Especially what I'm going to do in a month or so. So I just wanted to see what others like myself do to earn $$$.
I for one have a paper route in the morning at 3am. and I do telemarketing in the evenings 4:30-8:30.
two shit jobs cuz I broke my hand. How about you?

I work in a group home for people diagnosed as being severely and persistently mentally ill, chronically homeless, and the kicker? having substance abuse histories? part time. An enjoyable job if not somewhat stressful. In this position I consider myself undercover and work hard not to violate my personal ethics as it certainly falls into the category of ?working for the man?. Also sell used books online through amazon.com. I have learned over the years that developing a lifestyle dependant on smaller and smaller quantities of money keeps me happy as it affords more free time. So long as I can afford to rent a seat at the coffee shop, daily if need be, and thus gain access to an intelligent social network, I?m content. georgem

Nope and as soon as I sell my car I will have no bills.
I'm living in one of my dads houses, I remodeled the bathroom to live here Feb-March. Everything I own fits into a frame pack and two 25 gallon containers, no need for my own permanent residence.
I actually have a job but I'm on a leave of absence until October to hike the Appalachian trail.

good luck man, i did the pennsylvania section. All the way from the del/mar border up to nj at the del water gap, i believe it was about 180 miles or so. I loved every minute of it, the people you meet on the trail are awesome, and reaching our hangout at kirkridge shelter (about a few hours hike from the end of the PA section before you cross to nj) was one of the most satisfying feelings in the world.
Enjoy it, i never had the balls to plan the entire trail, maybe one day.

Right now I'm unemployed, but I work construction/demolition. Pays pretty good 10.00 to haul trash 12.50+ to destroy/build. Nothing like getting paid to destroy a mall abercrombie all with sledge hammers and prybars.

I am a veterinarian and I run a small practice primarily for horses during the day. At night I do various things, from teaching college night classess to dj'ing at parties n' clubs. I've been hurting for $$ the past couple of years because my practice is relatively new, and I need more clients. But the growth is there, hopefully things will be better this fiscal year.

To be a rodman you don't need anything.. you can learn that way, and move up.. but there's like 2 year courses you can take that'd help alot, if you want to be a crew chief or something.

i am a luthier (stringed instrument builder and repairman) and also tour with bands as a guitar tech. I toured playing for years with various bands... thats how i got my foot in the door. i alsoworked in the Gibson custom shop for years. entry pay is about $400/wk + per diam. since i have been doing it for a while, my pay is around $750/wk + $25/day per diam. hopefully i will move up to stage manager in the next year or so. that would mean $1000/wk + $25/day per diam.

I work in a pizza place, but am hopefully going to be working in a plastics factory in the next few weeks.
I never thought I would ever hear myself say i will hopefully be working in a factory, but the money isnt bad for someone with no real college education. I'll keep that up until June, when I will be going to bonnaroo, and working at a local day camp as a camp councellor during the summer. I did it last year and its an absolutely amazing job! The kids are amazing and i'm outside the whole time. Getting paid to run around and play sports with a bunch of 11-13 year olds.. Ahh, the life.
And hopefully i'm going to school next fall. I applied to Johnson & Whales in Providence, RI, and Johnson State College in VT.

I'm a full time student, 4th year university B.A in humanities and a B.ed in P/J. Basically in 2 years I can teach k-4, considering picking up a minor in psych or european studies next year.
I work full time hours at a part-time job waitressing/bartending and still don't make enough $$ I model for extra cash on occasion. I'm trying to find a flexible second job from April-September I was thinking parks & rec or day camp, but I'm not sure how flexible that will be, if not that then maybe a bookstore or coffee shop.

when i was growing up, we didnt have excess money to fix my instruments when they got messed up. i learned to fix things one at a time until i had built up my knowledge. my first summer home after college, i started working with wood and realized it was more fullfilling than college so i applied to gibson guitars. they said they only had an opening in the custom shop. the night before my interview i read a repair/building guide. the next day i had my interview. the book made it so i could better bullshit my way through the interview... i called everything by the propper name. since i passed the interview, i went in for the hands on portion. while i walked through theplant, i watched how people held the hand tools they were using. how you hold a file or chisel is half the battle in getting the propper results. i then passed the hands on portion and was hired that week.
once i got into the shop, all the guys there showed me what i needed to know to do my job. once i learned one aspect of building, i asked to be transfered to another task. i did this for a few years until i quit to tour full time.
i got the job as guitar tech by meeting as many people as i could during the years of touring.

IMHO, higher education is highly over-rated for many things, like running a business. Unless one needs very specialized training that can't be found elsewhere (doctor, lawyer, veterinarian, etc.) I think that most careers can be adequately learned without the cost of college or graduate school work-- just go out and work with/learn from those who are alredy practicing the trade or running the business. Even with veterinary medicine, I would have to say that >75% of what I use/apply/do with my hands everyday I learned from riding around with other horse vets, not sitting in vet school.
