Hello. I'm brand new here, and was just wondering about this ready to go kit I bought from Sjamman. It's a bag + filter set up with the tray and casing material all ready to go. I've had it going 2 weeks just like the instructions told me,...and there's barely some white fuzz on top, and some of the white chucky mycilia working its way through in some parts. The problem is that I see a green mold starting to develop on one of the sides. I really don't want to throw it away considering what I paid,... and wonder if I can ignore it if it doesn't get worse,...or if there's a way to kill the green stuff. Reading throgh some of the queries,.. I think I may have misted it too much initially, as the directions told me to do. (The only real step). The kit says I should have had a first flush already. Also,. there was about a 2 inch puddle in the bottom of the bag. Mabey if I just air it out. ANy input very appreciated. THANKS!- New Guy

Sounds like you have the green stuff. Sorry to hear that. Most of us here do not like kits from these kind of sites like you got yours. You can start over and get your own stuff. Much cheaper.....in the long run. Yes you over did the water....the green stuff likes water. Why don't you spend some time reading some of the postings here. Then follow some of the Teks. Cause you need too.....IMHO. Hope you have better luck in the future.

Yeah, thanks. I am trying the jar mehod too, my first time. Went to home depot,..and they said vermiculite is now illegal. So he told me to buy perlite. So I mixied this w/ my brf. I now know this is not the way to go. This guy was lying because I found vermiculite later at a garden store. But the jars are surprisingly colonizing very fast with the perlite,....but I'm thinking it may dry out faster. Any suggestions? THANKS

I'm pretty sure perlite and BRF cakes will NOT fruit. You can, atleast, try casing them, but even that may not work. Keep us informed.

Verm isn't illegal.....what happened is one or two mines they found asbestos. So there was a big asbesto's scare. Fred Meyer has alot of verm....its in the flower and plant section. I was just at Home Depot this past weekend.....They are starting to carry the 4 sq feet bags of verm.....these bags are huge. If you can get your hands on one of these large bags.....they would last a long ass time. I think they were like $14.00 As far as using perilite.....not sure that would work. A few other people have posted that they used perilite instead of verm. Maybe one of them will come forward and tell us if it worked. Chances are it didn't work.....and they don't want to look bad......lolzzz
