Need advice about picking my first shrooms

I have a shroom that is about ready to be picked. (Wahooooooooo!!!!!!!) Can you tell me the best way to go about this? I already know about sterilization, but do I use a razor blade and cut at the very base or should I cut a little bit under the stem into the poo? Or is there a better way? I guess what i'm asking is, how far down or under the stem do I go to cut it? I don't want to lose potency. Please help!!!

Just grab near the base and give it a twist and pull out. Then clean off any casing that might be stuck the bottom.You may not get all the flesh cutting with a knife or scalpel and it will rot in your cake or casing asking for contams to show up.

All in one fell swoop.......the shroom got to the top of the tub, and I saw the veil had broken away already, after I put my last post in. All of this happened in ONE day!! I plucked it from the poo, just as you said, and this little fungi weighed in at 1/4 oz! Of course, it'll probably wind up about .08 grams, but it's a start! Since this morning, I have noticed at least 12 new little ones. I can NOT wait until FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!! joe666 & I are gonna celebrate! :-) Thanks for your help!
