The dentist "turned me on"
    #5342694 - 02/26/06 08:14 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

The other day I was mediating upon my psychedelic experiences over the years and I realized something rather interesting: that the FIRST true psychedelic experience I ever had was at the dentist?s office when I was in the sixth grade! I was having some dental work done and I was given some N20. Man? I fucking tripped balls! I was a skinny kid and they put a mask on me or something and pumped me full of laughing gas? and I journeyed to wondrous realms beyond space and time -- all while in a white-collar dentist?s office!

So, I guess the good doctor (of dental surgery) is the one who tuned me on!

I used to love getting the Nitrous because I would just float off into a world of infinite nothingness. It was always great.

Whippets definitely aren't capable of providing such an uninterrupted trip. With whippets, you have to keep taking hits. At the dentist you have a doctor provide you with a perfectly proportioned mix of nitrous and oxygen so that you get high constantly without having lack of oxygen.

It always seemed like the chair just disintegrated from beneath me sending me plummeting into space where I would explore until I landed back into a chair very much the same as the one I fell from.

I remember when I was really young. I had to get tubes in my ears. (Don't ask) They put this mask on me. I seriously remember going through space. I love it, but it made me pass out..Put me to sleep...

I used to love the laughing gas they gave me. First time i ever had it i was probably 6-8 years old and tripped face too... i was lost and floating in a world of colorful blobs/swirls. Kinda like being in a lava lamp world with sooo much swirling color. . I can still remember the visuals quite vividly to this day.

"Sleeping with my eyes open" is what I called it when I was younger. The gas is the shit and I am sure turned many people on. I hear Leary first was turned on by nitrous as well.

One time I had to get some emergency work done and the dentist put me on the gas. The dental hygienist was a friend of mine who I used to work with at a grocery store. Once we were alone in the room she asked me if it was kicking in yet and I said yes. Then she said, "good let me get a hit". I laughed and handed it over to her. Every time the dentist came back to check on us we would say that I'm almost there. He would give me more time and I'd keep sharing the gas. That was pretty fun, despite the broken tooth getting fixed.

I think its funny that you posted this. My most "out there" first experience was in the chair on nitrous.

I passed out slowely and all I could see was like a billion stars coming at me and eventually made my vision white as they played and bounced off of each other. In the white room I had my eyes open, and the shining light above me became a silhouette.
I swear to you all, I had the classical alien abduction experience.
There was one dentist in the room, and none of the probing in this reality had to do with my mouth. There were small entities all around me fucking around with my mind, and one dominant(larger) alien who seemed to be in charge.

I was gone for 5 min only. It seemed like about 30 min worth of my brain being probed by alien creatures. As I slowely came out of it, I realized that the dominant and larger one was actually the light above me and my minor tooth surgery was over. Instead of it being dark like a shadow, it was in reality so bright that it was capable of burning my eyes if I looked at it for long enough. I just hope that was a part of the vision and that dentist had the presence of mind to shut my eye lids as I was staring right into it the whole time had he not.

It was one of the weirdest experiences I have ever had.
My dentist was a good one but had traveled with the dead for many years. Before all this, he suggested that I might just want the nitrous as he laughed(I looked like a dirty hippy at the time). I took his word for it.
He called me "greatful dead", and I think he went almost overboard with the nitrous that day. I shit you not.
He was, and still is the kind of dentist that never stops talking no matter how fucked up you are on medication. And he Is one funny guy for sure. A great sense of humor.

Ill have to thank him for that one day. That mental probing by entities was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen, not that it never happened after that, but this was all in a steril white room filled with little grey people.
And NO, I was not into aliens or ufos at that time. It seemed so real, and they seemed to be playing with the way my mind worked, not my anus.

Hey me too! sort of

I hadn't experienced nitrous until I was pretty old. It was when I got my wisdom teeth taken out that I finally found out what the big deal was. It was a pretty great time and I commented meanwhile to the nurse that people should just do this stuff instead of drinking (I didn't know it was nitrous at the time). My friend said he was hitting on his nurse when he got his wisdom teeth taken out.

The crazy part occured after the operation, becuase I was give a drug to knock me out. I hazily remember going from the operating room to another room, where I slowly came back. I remember watching the table flow like waves and ants walking around all over. I with 100% seriousness asked my dad if I was dreaming. On the way home my dad wanted to stop and eat something so I thought hmm I'm sort of on drugs I'll see what my mind has to offer. I close my eyes and all these words written in white sanscrit started appearing all over. I felt at the time that I understood what was being said, but alas, I don't know sanscrit in reality.

edit: Stemmer I really like your avatar, did you do that?

I could remember some things when I got me wisdom teeth taken out, but I was on heavy meds....I told my doctors that and they told me there was no way I remembered anything. I was out like a light as they said. I did feel them yank out the tooth that was still in the jaw almost entirely, and even in that dream state, everything in the dream was interupted because it hurt.

I was not kidding about the whole abduction thing. No meds just enough nitrous to make you pass out. Id imagine it was as terrifying as it can be. I really thought I was on another planet or a sterile environment, laying back on a chair and having strange telepathic mind operations with little grey people and one big alien above me. Im not saying I was somewhere in space. Im just saying that lots of nitrous made me have a typical alien abduction experience(has not happened since). The light above you when you are getting your teeth fixed is the same light that made the large alien come to be. The little greys were something else though.
They were the ones fucking with me.
I hope that story was interesting to somebody

Why would you be given the gas for 4 or 5 hours, were you also given medication?
Dentists just simply dont put people on the gas for that long.
Did you refuse all pain killers and medicines that would put you to sleep. What dental procedure takes 5 hours?
Are you exaggerating maybe?

Some dentists are cool, bro. They know you want the gas, and are willing to oblige. It is just more sales to some of them. It is fun times for their clients for others. You never know.

I know.........My dentist gave me more nitrous than was needed cause he knew I loved phish and he himself had toured with the dead.
I was just wondering what procedure takes 5 hours. Was he getting a heart transplant at the dentist or something?
Gas for 5 hours Is definately out of hand, brain damage style.

???? So more time equals more brain damage? You know they mix it with oxygen, it is not just pure nitrous. Reguardless, sounds like a personal belief to me. I don't know where you are coming from at all, man.

my only experience with anesthesia is the stuff that puts you completely out.

inhale gas.

body becomes sand paper.

white checkered lines.

awake in excruciating pain that lasts about 2 seconds and disappears [fucked up shit! i woke up screaming] and the operation is already over.

but while you're fighting to retain ego integrity and you disetigrate and merge with sand-paper, it feels so fucked up. like sleep paralysis accelerated by 10,000.

i dunno though it was like all the pain of the operation was blocked by the anesthesia and was just waiting for me to wake up to greet me.... they were simply putting a pin in a broken arm but my God it hurt so bad when I woke up, all the pain of the whole surgery just hit me at once then disappeared. I was only 7 too.

I had sleeping gas twice and both times produced similar results, a strong feeling of becoming sand paper while being greeted with either immense static or perhaps a sort of 2d whiteish (with black mixed with it but mostly white) checker grid or something of the sorts.

then you're awake again.
