Jiffy Mix hates me.
Seriously.
I have used it (sterilized in pc) on three seperate occasions. EACH time, I have gotten green mold after the first flush.
Other than that, I have gotten a fairly decent pinset with fanning daily in a tub with perlite. (probably better in your martha).
SO, if you DO use it, use it with the shells. (I switched to the 50/50 mix before mixing jiffy with shells. I was tired of the mold and figured I would completely change up.)
GL!

*roar* I'm tired of pointing this out.
"Contrary to popular belief Psilocybe cubensis doesn't need microorganisms in the casing for the mycelium to pin, so sterilization can be used where contamination issues are a problem."
DIRECTLY from the FAQ. http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/23440
Seriously, if this information is wrong, please correct it.

yeh coco coir gives me green mold 1/2 the time. I think its because the TIT might be to warm when I case them and incubate for 3 days. next time I'll try to incubate at room temps. I'm also using chrushed up egg shells to buffer the PH, got that info from a member here, can't find any place that sells chrushed up oyster shells.

dudenj I recommend PCing you casing mix. Even when I PCed my Mix I still got Green mold, might be because of other factors though. Next time I'm gonna PC the casing mix for 1hr1/2 instead of 1hr, then incubate at room temps for 3 day, I heard if your Incubating Temps are too high then your casing will be more susceptible to contamination.

You can pasturize the mix instead of sterilizing it. This is what Stamets recommends for peat casings and I know I've seen RR recommend it also.

I always microwave it before using. I have never added oyster shells but I do add some more vermiculite to it. jiffy mix I get seems to be more about 70% peat so I up the vermiculite some. ENJOY

It contains less than 1% Lime for PH buffering and PC = Pressure Cooker
