experimentation - who thinks this will work?

Well I was chopping up some cakes today to put into casings (with coco coir), and by accident I left about a 3/4" thick disk of cake. It was actually the bottom of the cake, so it is completely colonized around the outsides, with some strong rhyzomorphic growth.

Now I took about a gallon container with a screw on lid, the lid is about 6 inches in diameter. Filled a little bit with perlite, wetted it, and then put a little damp coco coir in the middle, and set the little disk on top of the coco. The container is clear, and the temp will probably be around 72-75 during the day and maybe around 65-68 at night. I set it on my window sill, hopefully something will come up.

Anyone think I'll get maybe a few little guys off of it or is it too small!?

You will get shrooms. I have done something similiar in the past. They will be small, and very few, but shrooms none the less.

that should work. Ive done that one time, and it worked well until i forgot about it and the chunk of cake dried out.

on my wombats last batch he had a small clump of colonized rye grain that was hiding while he cased the rest of it so he put a small amount of casing soil on this clump and just tonight he picked the second baby of of it along with several aborts this piece was probably 1/4 the size you described so yes it should grow some treats!
