which humidifier is used for what? (serious discussion)

I wanted to dive into the different uses of the two types of humidifiers. Everyone has either one or both in their martha/tub setup, but I always see questions as to the WHY of it.
Now, for the basic principal. We can all agree that the impeller Coolmist is used for both air exchange making sure that the air that is BEING exchanged is humid.
We can also agree that the Ultrasonic humidifier is used to up the humidity in the martha if and when it drops too low. It is used sparingly, on a short timer periodically.
NOW, for the proposed discussion. What TYPE of humidity are they pumping out?
Example 1: Would it be resonable to conclude that instead of using a coolmist, one could hook up a fan (of small CFM) to a Martha and run it constantly for the FAE and also run the ultrasonic constantly (or maybe on a timer, depending on your humidity.) Would that air exchange/humidity, given they stay within appropriate values, be suitable for the mushroom growth? What, IN THIS CASE, would the advantage of a coolmist be?
Example 2: Lets say that you have appropriate humidity and FAE with JUST using a Coolmist. ( I think HippieChick claims this). Would there be ANY advantage of using the ultrafine mist of an Ultrasonic humidifier?
Basically, what I am getting at is if one "type" of humidity is better than the other. Does one keep casings more saturated than the other? Does one provide more actual humidity in the air for the fruit bodies of the mushrooms to devlop?
All thoughts, and SERIOUS discussion welcome. Thanks for reading!

I sincerely hope tht people come in here and discuss this I am having issues finding a Ultrasonic humidifer. I was thinking since I am getting a Walgreens Coolmist couldnt I also get a Walgreens Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier? Or is a better Ultrasonic needed?
I will be watching this thread closely.

Check out THRIFT STORES, for ultrasonic humidifiers. (if any thrift stores are in your area).
I have a closet full, all bought from thrift stores @ an average price of $4 each.

there is no better type of humidity, humidity, is , humidity.

Hmmmmm...well lets see then.
Thank you both for the reply, but can I ask this simple question then fresh....?
If the ultrasonic/fan method would work, why don't more people use it? It would be quieter, and wouldn't have the "going kaput" problems of the coolmist from backpressure....correct?

I run a cool mist 24/7.. it runs out of water a lot when im not around to fill it up and that drops the rh... with just the cool mist running it stays around 85+ rh...
i have my ultrasonic set up to run for 5 minutes every 3 hours... which raises keeps the rh at 91.. and if the coolmist is out of water, it saves the martha from drying out... the ultrasonic also keeps my casing layer moist and you dont really have to mist at all..
i started with just an ultrasonic, and knew it wasn't gonna cut it without a coolmist.. i say use both

Good stuff! Thank you glidden!
Can you elaborate on your FIRST setup with just the ultrasonic? Why didn't it work? Was it on a timer? Did you have a fan for airflow?
You say the ultrasonic keeps your casing layer moist as well. How are you sure it's not the coolmist?
Thanks for the reply! +5 for you!

Man, why do threads like these die out. Lets get some big dogs in here to discuss this. There really arent any answers out there . . . .
Ive already designed a system much like the one you described in Example 1. I never tried it however, because I followed the crowd. Basically you would cut out some larger sections of the martha walls, and replace them with tyvek or better yet Hepa. This would allow you to use only a ultrasonic without the RH getting to high, and would ALSO allow for proper air exchange. (Perhaps adding a small fan would help in this regard)
Lets raise this thread from the dead!!

I think you always want an ultrasonic impeller type for just about everything that we do.
I could be wrong though. I do know that that is what most use for they're GH/marthas.

In my experience:
Cool mists provide more fresh air and less humidity while Ultrasonics provide more humidity and less fresh air.
Also, bear in mind that shroomerites span the globe and live in many different climates. You will need to adjust your setup to match your climate and most people who post these teks fail to mention these things.
For example:
Bob lives in the dirty south, where it's generally hot & humid and posts his awesome tek about neglect style monotubs that don't need to be misted. Spongiform follows his tek in a dry, desert like climate and finds his monotubs completely dried out after a few days.
On the other end, Spongiform finds it nessecary to mist his tubs 2-3x a day to keep them hydrated and posts a tek using that information. Bob follows his, but lives in a little swamp Louisianan town called Bon Temps. His tubs become waterlogged :x
Same stuff applies to any sort of greenhouse or automated setup. In the winter when it's dry I end up running my humidifiers on higher settings for longer periods but in the spring and summer months I have to tone them way back or my subs/cakes/blocks become water logged.

I have a 4 tier mini green house. I ran an ultra sonic with a zoo med hygrotherm and a pc fan blowing in from the top for 3 min on 90 off. I cut 2 1 inch holes on the sides of each tier and stuffed them loosely with polyfill. I like to tinker so Im thinking of making this http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7555252 to allow better control for different edibles.
