but stay, i really need your help:
i have a bunch of crumbled mycelial cakes in a foil-wrapped tray, on a bed of 50/50+.
i also have sterilized casing mix to cover it with. the myc. has been sitting for about 30 hours now, and i need to know:
whats the best time to cold shock the casing? should i add the top layer and immediately cold shock it, or let the myc. take it over first @ ? temp ?? and what about the little primordeal mushies growing on my cakes? do i lay the casing over them?

Hey
Well you should have already added the top casing layer. The top casing layer creates a humid enviornment for the mycelium, and gives it moisture as well. Put the top layer on and put it back into the incubator with either plastic wrap or tin foil wrapped around it. Mycelium is extremely sensitive to dry air, and that is not good to have it just exposed like that.
You have to wait until you see a little mycelium grow through the top. This will take about 3-5 days. Once there is a few spots on the top you can either cold shock it to induce pinning faster (some sources say not to cold shock however), or you can just put it in the terrarium, and give it light.

yes, okay... its covered now, and in a stable 70% humidity environment/.. thanks.
i cant wait woo hoo, i will have FRESH MUSH growing in my bedroom. i can wake up in the morning and access the titillating dimensions of gnostic reality without going more than five feet from my bed... yes, yes.. then all i will need is some chickens growing in my room and i could eat mushrooms and chicken all day and never ever have to face the violent dissonance of samsara again!!!

70% humidity is not enough. Try for 85% for casings.
