quick question about inoculation

Hey I posted another question about a week ago regarding inoculation and colonization, thanks to those who replied, and I have one more question before I go for my second try. Last time, when I was innoculating my cakes, I noticed that the syringe was getting vermiculite stuck inside the needle. None of my cakes colonized at all. I was just curious if there is any chance that the vermiculite in the syringe could have caught the spores and not allowed them to pass through with the water? Has anyone else had this problem?

well I supposed if it didnt let any liquid pass the syringue would be completely clogged as in putting pressure on it would accomplish nothing... know what I mean? But as long as you saw your cc's go down and plunger subside then the tiny obstruction wasnt a problem... Id suggest throwing away the needle if you cant get the verm out since the little particle could be a carrier to contamination. Or if you have other empty syringues fill it with water and try to 'shoot' the verm away.

But as long as the liquid passes through it shouldn't be a problem?

yup, you'll be fine, as long as you got your needle down past the dry verm layer you'll be ok.

Coda is right, if it bothers you still just poke a needle into the syringe to get it out
