i live in arizona. we've had no rain for the last 120 days, there's practically no humidity. the jars are pretty much contained, the water used in the original mixture will hydrate the substrate. it will take more than a month in my experience for a jar to dry out, even with the humidity levels present in Arizona

^^ hyphae is definitely right.
Do you not have a fruiting chamber? Why would you use a T shirt?
Look into perlite if you want humidity. It is a hassle and its messy, but it will get the job done.

well i think i will continue because my jars were very dry, and after only a few days of damp t shirt there is condensation in the jars, but if ther is a contam risk i will stop asap i guess.

The only way I can think of to dry a jar out is to incubate it on a heating pad. A wet tshirt on your jars is not a good thing. Might look fine for a few days, might look fine for a week... but it's asking for trouble IMO.

Tyvek isn't PF, but I'm not big on heating pads either way.

I totally agree grain jars incubating with Tyvek filters can dry out on the surface it's happened to me more than once. This only becomes a problem if the jars started out with less than optimum moisture content and can slow down colonization times compounding the problem somewhat. On the other hand this drying effect can help jars that are overly moist. Shaking will equalize the moisture content throughout the jars in most cases.
