those of you with a martha (construction modification)

Well hell....I have the perfect spot in my closet for a martha.....BUT, its only 28 inches wide. All the marthas I have seen at Kmart/walmart, etc are 30 inches wide at the shortest.
So basically, I just wanted to see how hard it would be for me to hacksaw off the horizontal bars connecting the martha to give myself a few inches. (Do they assemble that way?)
Any pics would be helpful too.
Thanks for the help!

Air exchange might become a problem in a small closet like that. A growing environment like a mini-greenhouse needs lots of fresh air. Make sure to provide for that. RR

I'd have to agree with RR, having a greenhouse style setup like that in a closet might be a problem. You'll def. want to make sure that you have ample FAE.
That said, I would advise buying a 4 shelf greenhouse, I have one that is 26" wide. They're cheap to, check local garden stores, or Lowes even...

guys I have a martha in my closet also, but it's a very wide closet, maybe like 15 ft wide. I have a coolmist hooked up along with a ultra sonic, would FAE be a problem?

I think they meant FAE problems in the sense that the closet if closed will not be recieving fresh air itself even if you have your cool mist running 24/7. Just pur your cool mist outside your closet, or if your closet has the doors with the vents maybe you can put a fan somwhere in the room blowing at the closet so that it can get Fresh Air.
And as for customizig the martha, with a good electrical saw you should be able to fix the problem within 5 minutes.

Thanks for the help. I don't think the closet will be a problem to grow in. First off, it never really "closes". It has those vent type things on the doors.
BUT ANYWAY, I am not worried about it. I have THAT figured out. My question was...whether the marthas can be hacksawed to make shorter. Any other takers?

Maybe shop around a bit first?
Those 4 tier green houses might make a better fit. Or at least might be easier to modify.
I just used plastic sheeting and sheathing tape to seal a storage area above my closet. It was very easy to do and works good. However I find sealing the outside isn't the problem it's finding suitable shelving. Suitable meaning. Strong enough to hold the load of a few large trays, wont obstruct the flow of humid air, and wont rust.
Can be a hard thing to find. After looking around I found those mini-green houses to be just about the best thing. Or the Martha closet of course.

yeah they come with just a bunch of poles that you stick together in the base pieces. it would be very easy to take the four 30" wide bars and cut a few inches off no problem, they just stick right into premade holes... the only issue i can think of is the plastic sheeting was made to fit the width of how it was made.. so the plastic is going to be too wide and drape over it somewhat. i'd be more worried about the pastic than the metal bars
