Woodluver Questions
    #5337832 - 02/25/06 12:12 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Ok im planning an outdoor grow of those "friscosas" in about 2 weeks.

is it too late to make it and have it fruit by next season? and would taking Myc from one of my patches at this point in the year make much of a difference? I read its best to do all this in fall, would it be worth it to give it a try this late?

Well, its best to start your colonization in the beginning of feb, but you should be ok if you get it going now.

The myc transfer would definitely speed things up, but since it comes from an outside grow it might present some contam issues for you.

contams? even if its an outdoor to outdoor transplant?

hmmmm, this might be harder than i thought. How can i reduce the chance of it contaming? Just have everything as sterile as possible and hope?

well it depends on what you wanted to do with it. What i assumed you were doing would be taking some wild myc, cultivating a sterlized bag of woodchips, and then spreading those woodchips in your bed. If you were transferring myc from the patch to an already prepared bed (IE colonizing the bed outside) then you should be ok.

When you bring wild myc in you're also bringing in the bacteria, molds, and spores that are present in nature. When cultivating inside you run the risk of germinating these contams since it's a controlled environment and is perfect for the nasties to breed like rabbits on viagra. Your myc has a better chance of fighting these guys off outside then they do inside.

On the flipside its going to take a bit longer (most likely) to colonize a bed outside then in since you cant control the enviornment as much. If anything it will just push the fruiting times back, possibly into the next season.
