Dampness of casing

Hey All,

I am planning on doing my first casing tonight. I am going to be doing a 50/50 mix. One thing I am unsure of is how wet the mix should feel. Relative to how wet the PF-Tek substrate feels should it be more or less damp?? or the same??

when you take a handfull of the moist casing material you should be able to squeeze some drops of water by not pressing too hard.

In the mushroom cultivator (you should really buy this book, it is very good) Staments suggests taking out some (10-15% ?) of the casing material before you wet it. Wet the remaining to saturation and then add back in the dry material and mix well. For a better, more detailed explination, buy the book. :smile:
