No pinning...
    #5336465 - 02/24/06 11:11 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I birthed my first set of B+ cubes just about six days ago and it seems like every time I touch them they get green/blue splotches on them and shit. But whats really bothering me is that they are continuing to grow thick white mycellia even after I cut down the temp and dropped the humidity. Plus they just wont seem to pin for me. Heres some pics of my star cake... Any comments or suggestions would be very welcome. I'm incubating at 73-75 F. and a hum of 95%. 12 hours of light a day.

I havent done cakes in a long time (2 years least) but try NOT touching them at all with your bare hands. You may want to increase air circulation while keeping your humidity high. With my experience I dont get pins for about 10, 11, 12 days but im also talking about trays

Continuing, thick mycelial growth is a sign of high CO2 levels. You probably need more fresh air exchange. Make sure to fan those cakes at least a couple times a day, if you aren't already.

Well then how often are you actually fanning them??? 6 days is not that long to wait for pinning, average can take 2 weeks. hold on and be patient. Also as was stated earlier, dont touch your cakes. Your just asking for trouble.

Reiterating do not touch your cakes! Not only is it totally unnecessary but why would you????? You are destroying fine hyphae networks and possible pinning sites! Patience is a Virtue if ya haven't already clued in. GL

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.
