I will not waste your time with questions that I am answering for myself minute by minute reading the wonderful wealth of information available. I would just like to introduce myself.
I am Ratqueen, here that is all I can be known as... ^_~ I have been researching and preparing to begin my Mushroom growing hobby. I am going to be starting off with a Myco Bag, as well as Cakes, I intend to move on to casing once I have a grasp of things.
I would ask a couple more questions but I fear I would find the information if I looked hard enough at Teks...so I'll hold off the Q&A until such a time as I know I cannot find the answer.
Until next I post it is good knowing you all and look forward to information on my journey into fungus cultivation.

Welcome to the shroomery. I can already tell you're going to be a good addition to the community, considering you've grasped the concept of reading! lol... seriously, that's a relief. It's really nice to see someone not coming in and expecting everyone to hold their hands and do all the leg work for them. Again welcome, and happy shroomin!

Hey and welcome. Im a noob to cultivation too, and this site is all you need (just about) to learn how to cultivate mushrooms, it is awesome, especially the whole community here on the boards. Well done on starting to read and teach yourself the basics before rushing in with questions that are answered on the site. Reading and teaching yourself makes you understand this a lot more than just getting told by someone, you also pick up a lot of extra things along the way.

Thank you for the welcome, I think I have a good grasp of what I want to accomplish as well as what I need to learn to do it, now comes the fun and trippy part, the journey.
Make no mistake I will probe and prod the collective about things like contamination but to avoid ignorance as to what they look like I need a control sample and a general sample, hence why I chose a Myco Bag AND Cakes as my first substrate the Myco Bag is sterile and airtight and if I buy a good sterile syringe (or better yet syringe them myself as I intend to try as well) meaning that the bag should be contam free....So Ill have a good gander at clean Myc, then I can better judge my cakes.
All things come to those who make things happen, nothing comes to those asking for handouts. So expect me to ask, but not til its necessarry and intelligent to do so.
Oh and for those of you who like me enjoy learning for learnings sake check out this, MIT is now offering 1250 of their courses FREE, no degrees involved just good learning....here's the link- http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html
Good reading good shrooming and again thank you for the warm welcome.

Welcome to the shroomery ratqueen. Make sure to keep us all posted on your grow, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Even "stupid" questions demand answers.

So I have decided on my first grow attempt, I am going to inoculate 24 jars, 12 John Allen, and 12 Koh Samui, and I am also ordering a Puerti Rican print.
Is this a good selection to start? Are any of these ill advised. I chose the two as they are said to be resistant to contam as well as fast fruiters.
I figurte any way I can minimalize the risks involved in learning the better.
Thoughts, comments, ideas?

If you dont mind reading a bit i would pick up the mushroom cultivator- a big blue book. Has all sorts of fun things to learn, accurate, modern and it kind of has a college text feel..i really liked it
