Cakes drying out!

What does one do when cakes are drying out before growth is finished? They are not completely dry, but I had one jar W/contamination so I decided to cut it open and it was almost dry on the inside, I did the same procedure w/all of my jars so I am assuming that they are all like this. any advice?
I'm thinking I should Try to let them finish COLONIZING and let them soak before I put them in a fruiting chamber. Thanks Roadkill

Cakes require 95-98% RH thru during fruiting. It's best to dunk and roll after birth, this will help the cakes hold more moisture. Perlite humidification will work well in a well sealed fruiting chamber. GL

Let them finish colonizing.
Spawning is another process... You spawn(mix) fully colonized substrates to start another substrate.
Example: you spawn(mix) fully colonized WBS that is in a Quart jar to some horse poo...to colonize the horse poo.

Yes of course, but I'd give another day or two atleast just to make sure the inside is colonized as well.

Dunking is almost a necesity in MHO, and should be done EVERY time. Check out the "dunk and roll" tek. http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/25057
