Mushroom after-effects?

Hello there fellow shroomers! Im new here, but I already like the site and the community itself It looks to be quite helpful on a huge range of topics but here's one thats been bugging me and i couldnt find anything on it: I read somewhere that after tripping on shrooms certain after-effects like tracers or after-images tend to last for up to five years. Is that rumor true?
Personally I have tripped about 5 times in my life now, 4 of it being in the last summer, and i keep seeing light flashes and after-images, every once in a while i get nice CEV's.

HPPD (Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder) isn't uncommon after tripping. I get a lot of CEVs too, especially in the dark.
Not entirely sure how long it can last though.. I've had it for about 6 months now, although it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I prefer everything looking colourful in the dark

sometimes while reading, text will look almost like it's floating back and forth in water, I've also gotten mild tracers and some other stuff as well... There was another thread awhile ago, think it was called "something weird happened" or something along those lines, there was a good link in there to some information on this topic, although someone else will probably dig up the thread and post the link eventually if I don't (which at this point doesn't look like I will be) or just go check out the thread yourself... Either way, it wont hurt you and if you stop using then it should go away or at least get better with time... I believe in that thread it was mentioned that most of the people on this site have probably experienced this at one point or another, if not currently... Then again I could be thinking of something from a completely different site...

I have noticed tracers since the very first time a tripped many years ago. I also notice different perception changes here and there, an almost electric static over EVERYTHING, and a few other small things.
Not really a bad thing though.
Like RandomHero said, once you trip, you just notice things you never did before. IMO tripping doesnt CAUSE these things, it allows you to see them, and once you are able to see something once, then your mind adjusts and you can see it all the time.

as far as seeing things after the trip, yes it happens. On average I'd say for most people it's not disturbing. It's more of a new awareness of things that were always there than persisting hallucinations. CEV's become common for a lot of people to afterwards. The best part about mushroom after effects is the afterglow. It's not uncommon to feel refreshed and revitalized the following days after a mushroom trip. I love that feeling.

So that thing is bound to happen sooner or later huh? Cool! I was worried at first but lately I find it quite amusing too Now as soon as exams are done, a shroomy celebration shall commence

and one more thing dont ever fear a trip its nothing to fear and dont worry about after affects most are pleasunt all i can is once u open your mind i highly doubt you'll wanna close it up again
a mushroom is like a key that will unlock your mind and if you're not ready for that then maybe you give it some time and research to see if a trip is what your after

If you are already having some minor form of HPPD you should see that as a warning. If you keep up your overindulgence, these things might develop into real HPPD, which can be very debiliating.

It can be debiliating. It just happens more so with some people than others. Anyone who has taken a LARGE amount of acid more than afew times knows that long-lasting after effects are not only common, but expected. They do get a bit more pronounced every time. Also, I dont know anybody who cant feel shrooms for days after a high dose(5+ grams). For me, 5 grams has after effects that last about a month, some lingering effects for longer than that. People with anxiety problems or have latent mental illness are very susceptible to some of the more dibilitating aspects of the common after effects. For example I knew a guy who had taken lots of psychedelics for a long time, but then he tried DXM. I personally like the stuff to an extent(find it to be very interesting), but he was never the same after that. He became very spacey. HIs very obvious change in personality was definately due to the DXM as he knew, and said so himself. He almost seemed kinda crazy, (made up funny names for everyone and everything, and was seperate from reality in an obvious way). He could laugh, he could be fun to be around. I thought he was great unlike some people(for the most part, assholes who also never knew him before), but it was not the same person. One day about 5 years after(still as weird as ever), he just dissappeared. I think alot of people knew what he had done, but really didnt want to know if they were right. HE was found almost a year later in a forest preserve with his car less than a mile away. He killed himself. He went there to die alone. Im seriously tearing up just thinking about it. It was the drugs, it was hppd but not of the more visual type. He was only 20 years old. He had a terrible reaction to this one drug, and before that he was very comfortable with a ton of acid in him. Mushrooms a less likely to do this to someone, but the after effects are enjoyable for the most part, and they do end at some point. Im sure it can take a turn for the worse though depending on the circumstances. I know, a related psychedelic(ayahuasca) did that to me. I will NEVER take another hallucinogen again. The trip that ended it all was also the most meaningfull, spiritual and truely magical experience of my life. But like I said, and this happens to many people, the after effects just last longer and longer(after years of responsible use). In the end years, it was no more than once every few months. Its been almost a year and a half, and I still wont even smoke weed because it makes me trip quite hard(amazing visuals). However, I know my body and after effects so well, that I know one day I will be able to smoke weed again and it will be no different than before this crazy thing. There is not a single shaman that ritually takes ayahuasca that doesnt experience hppd. For them, its normal. For your average westerner, the after effects, given the confines of our little reality, can be debilitating. Certainly most people dont take ayahuasca that often, but you get my point.
