Hello everyone. I am new to this forum, obviously. I stumbled across it when my and a friend were researching mushroom growing techniques and such. After reading some of what you guys have talked about, and seeing some of the pictures, I think it is safe to say that you know what you?re talking about. I, along with two other friends are planning to grow some of our own mushrooms. We are following this guide that we found online, in hopes that it has accurate information
http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml
Being that we are new to the growing process (Not the consuming, we have that down) I was hoping that someone with a fair amount of experience in this field could let me know if that guide is accurate at all, and let me know of any tips or suggestions you may have. As far as what we have, we have purchased half pint canning jars, vermiculite a thermometer and humidity gauge, a few B+ syringes, and we have wire and silicon that the guide suggests also. We don?t have the funding for any kind of kits or anything, just money for the syringes, and possibly the purchase of some sterilized jars, so please, any help that could be given would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to our community,
Everything that you need to know is here, take time to look around.
This place is so massive its easy to get lost, and I suggest that.
Look at the sponsor page they have premade jars and wont let you down.
Same thing for Spores the sponsors kick ass.
That link is a good read, and you should read it a few time, memorise it.
Right on top of the page there is "Getting Started", start there and take the the to read everything...........
Other then that this takes time, hours of reading will help you out.
For me it's like 90% reading/learning and 10% actual work.

Good Luck

Just wait till one of your "new" friends , by new friend , I mean someone who knows what you're doing who you may not even know , gets caught with some . Think they won't tell someone , the cops , to avoid a felony .

Yep.
Man you might just want to hold off on trying to grow for a couple months. When people ask you about growing mushrooms, just say, "I decided not too. Too risky, too illegal, too hard."
Just keep telling people that.
After a couple of months when people have forgotten about it completely, you can decide whether or not you want to start growing. But don't tell anyone this time around. =]

http://www.fungifun.org/pf/pf_en.htm Much more straight forward. Although personally, for a fruiting chamber I prefer the fishtank or Clear/opaque Walmart tub with a perlite or Geolite bed for humidity. Much simpler.
Since you didn't mention having a Pressure Cooker and don't appear ready or able to purchase one, grains and such are pretty much out (but expect people to tell you that you should use them anyway )
You might also want to go through the Cakes section of the cultivation archive. Lots of ideas in there. Grab the ones you like and you should be able to come up with a system that suits your needs, funds, and situation.

I agree with HippieChick. Can you trust your friends? People like to brag about the unique things they do. I'm not saying don't do it, they might have tighter lips than you. Just ponder that psylocibin is a class-A substance, know the gravity of what you're getting into.
That said,
You've already got jars and vermiculite, buy the flour at a health food store (4 bucks) and your set, no need to purchase pre-made jars. If you can't find brown rice flour, rye flour can be used as well (I prefer rye flour over rice flour). If you can't find a sutable flour, you can buy whole grain brown rice and grind it with a coffee grinder.
While innoculating, flame the needle every so often, and keep it wrapped in an alcohol soaked towel inbetween innoculations.
Read up on spawning to bulk. Learn how to pasturize straw. You could set two of those jars aside and spawn them to some straw... and get as many shrooms from that as you did from all the other jars.

Did I miss something? Growing with other people has its own disadvantages, but that is not the same as bragging about a personal grow operation to casual friends.

Thanks everyone for the links and advice. They are turning out to be useful in my conquest of growing magical fungus. OH, and we have purchased a pressure cooker
?Here's my advice, too many people already know about your plans. You told 2 of your friends, give it a week before all your friends know, and ALL their friends . Think about it , you told 2 , they each tell 2 , like you did , they each tell 2 , so on and so on .?
In response to that, and others who have said similar, let me reiterate; I did not mean that I told some friends, I know better then that (I may be a newbie dealing with the growing of mushrooms, but I have done a fair amount of ?favors? for people, and I know running my mouth about it is not a good thing.) What I am doing is between me and two close trusted friends whose asses are on the line also, because they are helping in this matter. I know it will probably cause some problems growing with two other people involved, but they are necessary for my operation.
Thanks again for the help, guys
