Dunking question.

I have decided to dunk my PF cakes. So how do I dunk a cake? I was thinking of boiling a pot of water for a few minuets then letting it cool to air temp and submerge the cake in that for 16 hours. Then set it in the FC. Does that sound like a good or bad idea?

Yea - Remember that once the mycelium has colonized all the substrate, that it actually acts as a barrier against any other contaminates that would otherwise ruin your cakes. If you want to play it really safe, you can always boil the water...but like srgtm1a said, just use bottled water (and add a little h202 (hyrdogen peroxide) just in case)

I am mostly thinking of boiling it to get rid of the chlorine. or is chlorine not an issue. The water has an unusuale high amount of chlorine.

Unusually high amounts of clorine? Forget using your pool water - just stick with bottled water like srgtm1a said. You can get a gallon of bottled water at Kroger for like $0.70.

you can also set the water out for about 24 hours and the chlorine will naturally evaporate out. then you could boil it for other contams....i dunno, just my 2 cents.

Yep. I just get a gallon jug of Spring Water at Walmart for under a buck. I also "dunk" by just dumping the dry verm layer and filling with water. Eliminates risks of cross contimination and is a bit more gentle on the cakes.

I used tap water to dunk too. No problems...
