"Dancing Tiger", what is that?
I'm sorry i have already asked this but were Cubensis recently discovered growing wild in southern China? Or were these just Cubensis spores sent from growers in China, and then for some reason dubbed a new strain from China.?
It reminds me of my new strain i have coming out soon from Antartica: I'm going to send a spore print to Antartica and then have it mailed back to me in Florida so i can dub it the Antartica strain. Would that not be cool? Or is that just the way we do things now a days in the online mushroom community?
Or it reminds me of the time somebody named a strain of Cubensis "blue meanies". When blue meanies are a nickname for Copelandia mushrooms and not Cubensis. It really has created unwanted confusion between the two shrooms names.
The pictures of these "dancing tigers" shows the are indeed premium mushrooms, but i was just wondering where they came from for real and wondering why they are being called Dancing Tigers..

The original print was sent to me from China.
That doesn't mean, it is native. It could have come in during the sailing or steam ship era. With bovines, feed & fodder shipments.
Which may be the way some other strains got to Florida. Or, Cuba, South America, Australia or wherever.
Because of language difficulties. I named them that. The person I got them from did not speak english well. Nor do I speak Chinese. He referred to them as "laughing dancing mushrooms".
However, there are references in literature. About "laughing mushrooms" in China. Dating back near 800 years.
If you were under those same circumstances. What would have you called or named them?
J. Allen has personally collected several strains from Asia. Others have come from India. Both are close to SW China. SW China has a similar climate, soils & bovine agriculture.
I doubt someone in communist China, ordered a spore print. From who knows where. Then, grew them out, just to send a print to me. At considerable risk, since China has drugs laws. That often carry a first offense automatic death penalty.
Reality under those circumstances is. A print taken from a wild mushroom. Is far more easy to conceal. Than, a grow operation, no matter how small.
Certainly, there are a lot of BS named strains out there. I certainly would not BS anyone about the source of the print. That is all I can vouch for.
One thing for sure, the spores did not come from any lunar rocks. Hell, today I read Al Sharpton wants a DNA test. To determine whether he is related to former segregationist; Sen. Strom Thurmond through his great-grandfather; a slave owner & ancestor of the late senator.
The possibility of that weird pedigree, if true. Isn't any less plausible than this.

So true. Selling ploys to dupe the uninquisitive.
Can't say I blame any company so much as the individuals who buy into it, and carry on to use "strain" and "Species" interchangeably. Certainly, the well informed mycologists responsible for the strains can differentiate between the two.

In my experience, I've found that certain named strains do exibit specific growing characteristics. I have seen the Thai Mystery, grow consistantly small fruit, but massive flushes, The "A" strain and Orrisa India, have fewer fruits but generally huge ones!
I don't agree with the marketing ploy of randomly naming a strain to make it more appealing for sale. But, naming for Location, Characteristics, or History seems appropriate.
The alternative would be to limit your selection process to Cube, Pan or Azure...
And on a personal note... If Agar sent me a print called "Mars Magic Mushies" because it was sent to him by the lost Mars Rover... I might be skeptical... but I'd still take him at his word!
