Coconut mulch?

I called my local garden shop and they said they sell a cocount mulch, she didn't know if it was the same as coir. I asked if it was in brick form and she said no, it's bagged up. Is this what I need for a verm/coir casing layer?

Honey,
I would bet those are the shells off cocoa beans (think chocolate). Coir differs greatly.
Try a garden supply, hydroponics, or pet store for Coir blocks.

I can't find anyone that has it. I've called every garden/pet shop I could find and nobody knows what the hell I'm talking about. I don't even really know what it looks like so I can't help them out.

ah mushroom cultivation, using everyday products for things they were never designed for
Glad you found some coir, you should try getting some peat as well, it provides a better casing layer then coir does.

Looks really packed in. It says it will be good for a 40gal tank though so I'm sure it'd be fine for a few casings. Sould I just chop off a small slice or doesn't it expand?

break/saw off a hunk and pour hot water over it let it expand for a bit and then ring it out, mix, sterilize, and case

It's the same thing but I recommend peat/verm anyday over coir. Cocount mulch is not even close to cocoa beans how did ya come up with that? That was cute though Tippinthru. LOL

A store clerk could confuse "cocoa mulch", with Coir.
Many garden & nursery supply stores are beginning to stock "cocoa mulch".
Which, comes in large bags, as the clerk described.
I thought possibly, if a stoner called a place, and asked if the had coco coir.
A clerk might confuse the two.
Confusion often abounds, with low IQ store clerks.
