Round spikes of mycelium on casing....

I have a casing of costa ricans going right now, and it doesn't want to pin!! I did brf spawned to Hpoo with a coco/verm layer. I've had it in the FC for probably close to 2 weeks at 72-74 F and 85% humidity. The casing layer is fully covered, and there are these lil round spikes of mycelium all over the casing layer. They almost look like they would be the beginnings of small shrooms. The problem is they've been there the last 5 days or so, and it seems like the growth has stopped. Does any1 know anything on the costa rican strand? My costa rican cakes wont pin either. Any suggestions to induce pinning?

I'm still a newbie, but I read that 72-74 degrees is too cold, and makes the moisture in the air condense on the side vs staying in the air. 76-84 is optimal from what I read.
That's all I can offer.

no, 74-78 is optium. 84-86 is optimum for incubation.
Do this. 1.) read This 2.) Increase humidity to 95%+ 3.) Mist down the casing layer heavily until it glistens, dont soak it, but make sure its at field capacity. 4.) Right after you mist the casing spray some mist in the air (in the chamber) and fan it heavily.

What if the casing layer has lil droplets of water in around the mycelium. There is no actual puddles of water but there is tonsa small water droplets on the casing layer. I had read that this was ok.

That's fine, but make sure you're fanning quite often.

Thx for tips. I did notice I have 2 tiny tiny pins on the side of the casing. Many people say that 90%+ humidity is too high for casing. Costa Rica is kinda close to the equator, so maybe the strand needs a tropical hotter climate to grow in. The odd thing is that all my cakes of costa rican have overlay. I tested them in 2 different fcs(Tit:95%rh,70-72F & PmP:85%rh,72-74F) and got same overlay.

you want 90-95% RH until pinning, then down to 85.

I do 95% during pinning and 85-90% usually closer to 90% during fruiting the higher RH creates less shrinking of the substrate yet allows adequate transpiration (evaporation) fot healthy fruitbody development. I've done many 7-8 flush casings this way without ever dunking. Note there is still shrinkage but it is minimal. GL

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"
