"Cereus Peruvianus"
    #5329126 - 02/22/06 07:40 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I was travelling and dropped into a K-mart for some digital camera batteries. I wandered into the garden center out of curiosity and found two labelled cacti which looked very much like Trichocereus peruvianus, but they were labelled as "cereus peruvianus". I assume this is the same cactus. Is this correct?

I was tempted to buy them, but I have other priorities.

you did well, cereus are NOT trichocereus.

Hrm, I'm glad not to have purchased them. They were surprisingly similar to peruvian torch in appearance.

Take a closer look. Compare images online. They really look nothing alike. They're very thin ribbed cacti, and very easy to spot once you're used to it. Very unattractive cacti to me.

They were just babies, so perhaps the differences hadn't grown too pronounced yet.

That's quite possible. Young cacti look very much alike.
