Automated FAE

FAE is critical for optimal harvests.
I don't, nor have ever "fanned" trays.
Anyone with a little ingenuity, can automate FAE.
(I am not talking pumps, as in diagram, or piston pumps)
I am talking FANS. (as near silent as exists)
There is literally a million types of FANS out there.
Many of which are for ONLINE applications.
Or, with a little alteration can be used IN-LINE.
Keep your eyes open at garage sales, thrift stores, science surplus places, eBay & all over the place.
If you spy an INEXPENSIVE fan that might work IN-LINE.
Snap it up & try to put it to use, with a timer.
It is toilet flush simple to use PVC pipe & fittings to vent into a fruiting chamber.
With a little more ingenuity, it is also simple to modify an ULTRASONIC humidifier to in-line applications.
Then, you have the best of both worlds. (automated FAE & Rh)
Now, all the nay sayer's will jump in about air filters.
Once you are at the pin/fruiting stage. There is no real need for any fancy extra-ordinary air filtration. (so long as the environment is relatively sanitary)
Once at the pinning/fruiting stage, ponder this.
The substrate is FULLY colonized. The casing cover is fully colonized. The tray is pinning/fruiting.
Even if a few mold spores get to it, sooner or later. They have to germinate & grow, before there is any visible BS. (which takes considerable time)
You can get 2 or 3 good flushes, before any contaminate is visible.
Those first few flushes, is where the bulk of the crop comes from.
Once AUTOMATED, life gets easy.

I like that idea, but when I up grade I will have to think about that route.

Small fans from like electronics and such need a DC power source. Batteries are kinda a pain in the ass to be changing. What do you use as a power supply to the fans?
Also, What is the difference between online and inline?

(whole unit is about 8 inch's square)
Where there is a will, there is a way.
Many ultrasonic humidifiers have have ROUND outlets.
Simple to alter with PVC pipe flange & a "T" PVC fitting to have it vent into an in-line application.

I'm not talking DC powered fans. (batteries SUCK)
110 AC you wire or plug in an outlet.

Ahh I see now
Might be a bit much for a martha sized set up. But it would be a FANTASTIC alternative to a cool-mist for a mini green house set up.
Combined with an ultra sonic of course.

LOL, sorry.
The closet full I have all came from garage sales & thrift stores. (on average $3 each cost).
A FOGGER in an enclosed 5g plastic bucket of water also works. PVC pipe can be fitted to a plastic bucket lid - easy.

Great idea now I have to place an order.....man you cost me money...when my women ask 'what do you need that for', I just blame you..lol
But I am very thankful,
This idea I can use now,
Do have a recommendation as to the size pre FC size or know a way to figure it out.
This is what I am using for RH and heat...

Be sure to get the buoy thing, fogger floats on.
No recommendation on a fan.
Any that blow as breeze will work.
If you get a strong one. Simply have it timed in much shorter intervals ON.

Thanks agar, this is one post that I needed to read. I really appreciate and crave the "mushroom cultivation for dummies" approach.

most air matress blower uppers are very powerfull and very compact, but loud as hell!
hook one of these up to a timer, and you are set. If you can stand the noise?

Good stuff agar. I do have to severely stress that short intervals are important. I recently completed my first grow in my automated FANNED tub (look at signature for results). The fan caused problems. My casing layer would dry out quickly (even with it on 3 minute intervals every 4 hours.) It caused misting once, even twice a day.
So I would suggest definately using an inline humidifier.
To see how much it changed, I sat and stared through my fan while it was spinning at my guages. My humidity went from 95+ to around 75 every time it kicked on. Then took another 30 minutes to get back up there (from the perlite.)
Just my 2 cents!

Yup, you have to be careful of automated fans.
A lot depends on how you rig them, the size of the FC & other factors. In my case FC is bigger (24 cubic feet).

The in-line system is piped through a 5 gallon bucket 3/4 full of water & there is a fogger in the bucket.
So, it will pump in a LOT of fresh air, along with a lot of mist, all at once.
Even with the fogger off, the Rh of the FAE is still fairly high, since FAE travels through the bucket of water.
