Noticed a reduction shroom in your local cow pasures?
    #5328729 - 02/22/06 05:32 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I have seen many posts and replies to the question of "why are the shrooms disapearing". Some speculate fungisides in cow food but that is toxic. It dawned on me while in a home improvement store that many, many fertilizers used commonly contain fungisides. So it's a good possibility that the specific pastures in question could have been fertilized to improve grass/hay growth. Just a theory.

You wont find a pasture that is fertilized with a conventional fertilizer..
The hay you find here in Houston is either Coastal or Bahaya.. Both are native grass that need no fertilization other than good ol rain and sun..
The lands are so vast that the cost of applying a conventional fertilizer would be much too expensive and way unnecessary..
There are Feeds that contain a Anti Fungal property.. But again this is not used to control mushroom growth in cow pattys.. Its used to control mold growth in the raw feed its self..

We grow and harvest Burmuta grass on our ranch. Obviously no fungisides. Onther parts of our Country could be experiencing the fungiside fertilizer theory.
