A good friend and I were jamming a little bit tonight and got to talking. I have either forgotten or never knew that we have a place less that 3 miles from my house that specializes in all things mushrooms.....the legal kind. It is a green house and nursery, but the have big signs advertising the best poo (my friend tells me)in my area. They have duck poo, goose poo, cow poo, horse poo, emu poo.....about any kind of poo a cultivator could want...

I've never set foot in there, so I am not sure what else they have, but it sure would be nice to be able to get mycobags and such right next to my house.

I know where I am going to be tomorrow.

I'm a lucky, lucky guy.

See if they've got any compost. That will be the ticket right there. Compost made for mushies, even if they're the commercial kind, is absolutely great for cubensis. Plus, phase 2 compost is in essence pre-pasteurized, as pasteurization takes place due to the high temps in the phase 2 process.

Doesn't Phase I have way more nutrients + other goodies for mushies? I thought Phase II was...used, I can't think of the word I'm looking for :bongload:

So would the compost be considered the bulk substrate? Is my concept below correct?

So it would go LC -> rye berries -> compost -> cased with pure vermiculite?

I never planned on going the poo route even though I see the results all over this forum. This could make it something I could get behind pretty quickly.

Phase I is too ammonia rich for mycelium, according to the sources agar has posted.

And yeah, compost is bulk substrate. You can treat it just like pasteurized poo.
