Due to my large incubation chamber I can basically pick the tempurature from 80 - 85. The fish tank heater and glass jar is in the middle and right by it is 85. On either side, a jars length away is 84ish and jar length by jar length its goes down a degree. Apparently jars are about 2 degrees hotter than the surrounding air so my tempurature are pretty perfect. I love having the choice too. I can fit three jars across at any tempurature and on the other side/half another 3 jars at the same tempurature. It's one of those large stryafoam coolers that they ship fish in. It can fit 12 jars on each side of the jar if I want to have some pusing, almost, right up against the fish tank + jar unit. So 24 jars on one level, and, two levels total if I want so 48 jars. However, if I ever did have 48 jars it would probably effect my tempurature. I only ever have 12 jars in there max.

84 to 86 degrees.
I try and keep mine dialed in at 84 degrees.
I notice that they colonize faster within this range.
At least for me.

I am still on my first batch so not a pro but I will say that I had my jars going for almost 8 days with no sign of anything, checked the temp in my room and it was going between 75-80 and nothing was happening set up some heating for the closet I am using and got it up to about 85 and within two days the jars sprung to life, and are coming along very quickly now, so I would defiantly say 85

what does everyone here use as a heat source, and how do you regulate it?

I use a liquid space heater (not the red electric coil type) and it has a thermostat on it. my incubation chamber is a closet. if you're on smaller scale, you could very well submerge your jars in water, and put a fish tank heater in the water.
this is cumbersome if you have many methods on the go;
brf, rye, pans, agar, liquid mycellium
you are limited by space only, not methods

I use a submersible aquarium heater.....a 50 watt.
I have a large Rubbermaid container i stick it in.
I have 4" to 5" of water in the large container...i add a little Hydrogen Peroxide to the water.
Then i have a smaller container inside the large one....for the jars.
I like the submersible aquarium heater set up cause i can dial in the heat to 84 degrees real easy.
This is a picture of one of my incubators.....i have 2.
(This image is not re-up loaded....lol) (Copied and pasted image)
If you look closely you can see the heater stuck to the side.... and the jars in the smaller container....inside the large one.

Hi cookiewhore.. where do you get that type heater? I think that may be my problme. My closet and home for that matter is only around 75 degrees.. I need a safe way to raise the temp in my closet without making the rest of my house to hot.

Go with the aquarium heater set up for sure. I just copied the one they put on :
http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator.htm
The aquarium heater isnt very expensive and the bins are cheap as well....works real well.
As for my incubation temps again. I think Im going to try the 85dgrees instead of the 75-80. Ive inoculated some brf jars with some B+ and they are already colonizing....about 5% in 3 days at 75-80degrees. Ill experiment with the 85 degrees and let u know if its faster. As far as ive heard it werks very well:)

I would say that some strains flurish better than others in lower 75-80 degree temps, but maybe all strains love that extra 5 degrees, especialy the ones that originate from hot tropical climates like Thiland and mexico. Im not sure what climate B+ comes from but it seems to do very well wether its hot or not, just my opinion anyways

I just put my jars in a smaller sized rubbermaid container and set it on top of my fridge. My temps are usually between 85 and 88. I'm growing PR's and they really seem to like the higher temp. I like it because it is really easy and cheap (everyone has a fridge)

Yes, that is exactly why the liquid heat type is used. I personally dont think those ones with the red hot coils are very safe. even though they have a screen on the front, they get very hot, and can even melt things. For small closets, you really want something that will not cause any fire hazzards..
i'll try to find you a link to the type i have. but definatly you will want one with a thermostat on it. Also, the closet we have is covered to keep the heat in. you dont want it brniging up the temp outside the chamber really.
