enhanced water for substrate: your opinion

hippie3 once said that the fastest colonization of a jar he had ever seen was BRF, verm and a "tea" made from soaking cow dung. Does anyone have any experience or novel ideas on enhancing the water in your substrate to add nutrition?

I've heard of this "tea" before but dont have any direct experience. I know somebody over at FF did a little test which was manily to do with types of water and contamination rates. I've heard a little about people adding dextrose (you can easily find it in sweet'n'low) to their jars to enhance colonization. I also heard a little about honey. Search the BB for some information.

people have had problems with honey because it carmelizes during high heat sterilization and slows up colonization. I was thinking something more along the lines of soaking organic materials in the water you plan to use for your substrate...something like nomis tec which uses grass. for instance, bran flakes, some sort of plant matter, perhaps worm castings. this is basically just a poll.

I would think fish tank water would work if dung soaked water worked and you wouldn't have to wait.Let the fish do all the work.

I've heard of the advantages of organicaly saturated water solutions for quite a while. It only makes sense in my opinion that the addition of extra nutrients would be beneficial. Joshua

Yes. it is possible that there is an easy household technique for nutritionally enhanced substrate water... imagine the ramifications. Most growers could theoretically keep gallons of substrate water in the fridge for use on all of their projects. The right formula (it would have to be quick and easy) could become the next addition to the pf tek...anything that increases colonization speed and health of the shroom without the possibility of bringing in more contaminants is something certainly worth looking into.

I think that the "next addition to the pf tek" is useing the cakes for spawn. Such as in the straw tek that uses blended up PF cakes to inoculate straw.

jammer you misunderstood...the PF tek is designed to minimize contams and keep it as simple as possible. Spawn is too easy to fuck up for the first time grower, but using nutrient water should be simple and contam safe.

i use straw water from when i pasturize ma straw, it seems to help things along a bit when i do grain jars, i cook whole brown rice in the straw water to soak it in for my jars, it also helps to get the myc used to that type of substance or so i hear.
