I'm not offically a manager, but they give me manager privledges at my bartending (weekend/holiday job). It was a busy holiday and a lot of people called off. One girl was supposed to have been fired the last time that she called off but noone did it. So when she called off, I told her that I couldn't let her take the day off, even if she had a doctors note. She said that she couldn't make it and that she'd come in later to talk to me about it. I said "OK.". She came in between the lunch and the dinner rush and we talked. I told her that her excessive absenteeism was really making it hard for managers to schedule her and depend on her and that we had to let her go. She kept saying "It's not my fault!", to which I finally replied "Well, it's not ours either, but we all had to suffer today because you weren't here when you were supposed to have been." Then she cried some and begged for her job (how can you beg to be a waitress?) and I just told her that it was already done and that we didn't have any need for someone that can't be in work when they are supposed to be.
I felt like a dick, a little bit, but then I remembered how so many people called out that day and most servers had 7-10 tables at a time seated and were running around like chickens with their heads cut off all day long. I really can't tolerate people that slack off at their job, especially when I work two rather demanding jobs and some people seem to not be able to deal with one.
So, thats that. Just wanted to get it off of my chest

It's one of the necessities. She had it coming to her and wherever you work will be better off without the slacker.

Yup. I wish I had a nice big stick that I could just run around and tap people with, I'd call it the Trump, and it would indicate that...

Uh-huh!
