Penis Envy vs. Treasure Coast

I?ve been growing Penis Envy mushrooms beside trays of Treasure Coast for over a month now and I was wondering if anyone out there knows much about these strains. The PE mushrooms grow very fast in comparison to the TC. The casings fill out faster as well as the grain jars. However when the mushrooms form and the partial veil breaks they are only about 2-3? tall! Is this typical of their genes or what? (*also, if they do not produce spores like other mushrooms, couldn?t you wait longer to harvest them without degradation of potency?) Are they so short because of soil PH or co2 elevation? I remember Enoki mushrooms tend to elongate with raised elevations of co2?.but I?m really stumped on how to get bigger yields here. As for the Treasure Coast, they have been under pinning conditions for 3 weeks now and NOTHING has happened other then some white mycelium showing and minute spots of green mold. **the whole time they have been beside fruiting cased trays of PE that don?t even hesitate to pin. How can two strains of mushrooms under the same species (cubensis) have such different characteristics? Long story short, whats the deal with the genetics/characteristics of these two strains?

It just sounds like your TC got contaminated. Cubes should fruit within a week to ten days after placing into fruiting conditions. RR

yea... RR is right.
i usually wait about 5 days after patching, till pin formation. I haven't grown PE but i have been growing TC for a while now... Love the strain.

holy hell! thats the kind of fruitings i was hoping for!!! what sort of casing do you use on yours? i'm using Pro Mix BX straight from the bag (thats peat with a ph of 6.4 or so pre mixed with: mycorrhiza, vermiculite, and pearlite.) i thought the mycorrhizal would benifit the growth somehow...maybe i was wrong. Anyhow, i've got a list of casing ideas from this site, but i could always use one more.
**is it true that women get strange "body tingles" from TC mushrooms??? i read that on a distributors web site

What substrate are you using?
If you want to dramatically improve your yields spawn grain (I like wbs) to horse poo.
I don't know much about that pro-mix your using as a casing layer but I can tell you that 6.5 is a little too acidic for your BEST results. Optimum pH for a casing layer about 7.5. I basically use this exact mixture and method for making my casing mix. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5320904#Post5320904

i use 50/50 + oyster
and i find that either substrate they come off of... TC is great!
i have tried many dif strains, and i find TC to have some of the best visual effects...
Like, i can usually drive while tripping... if i need to get somewhere (CAUTION) but i can't look at traffic lights while on these.
but i can with KSSS... not alot of visuals.

hey guys thanks for the posts i appreciate it. I have yet to try horse/cow poo though. My next experiemnt is going to be trying Ryche Hawk's casing tek http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/7977 using calcium cloride instead of hydrated lime. I'm thinking even though it has plenty of humidity from the pearlite and fresh air exchange from the HEPA filter that mabye my casing layer just isnt holding as much moisture as is optimal for good results. Anyhow, these are my first two runs on cased grain (only tried rice flower cakes once) and i've got a lot to learn about patching, overlay, etc.
Those really were some great pic's though, hats off you ya'll.
