One thing is 15lbs on the lid definitely won't hold a lid down at 15psi because thats 15lbs per square inch (a bomb!) And as was said it's only probably only 7-8 psi which I highly doubt and even if it was it would take hours to sterilize anything at that pressure and with all the leaks it would run dry long before (FACT!) OK we can all laugh in unison! LOL Please tell me your not at all serious bro? BTW I've had a gasket blow at 15lbs. and you don't even want to be within 10ft! and that just within scalding range.

I work with higher pressure equipment and the pressure is contained by .060" thickness PLASTIC though only around 190 degrees farenheit, you don't even need clamps and shit at that low of a pressure as long as the differential isn't great when pressure changes rapidly. This is pressure by a pump rather than steam though so I am not sure how that changes things

Well, that's a whole different kettle of fish, mate. If your clamps are working, but you have steam blowing out of leaks, then I change my opinion. There is no way of telling what pressure you have without a pressure gauge. Those bottles, like I said before can't be adding more than a fraction of 1 psi. But your actual temp in there is unknown, and with an unknown pressure, you are taking your chances. I suspect that, since you notice a difference in steam escaping with those bottles, most likely you are barely above atmospheric pressure. But you could also be near dangerous pressure, too. Be careful.

OK that I can believe, Ya had me worried bro! Be safe Your PC I'm sure still has a gasket right? They can easily blow out even at 7-8 psi which again won't sterilize anything really more than boiling your jars. Your just lucky is all don't put your guard down my friend shit happens when ya least expect it. GL

you've already been told about the dangers, now are some facts, if thats your method of retaining the top, you arent building any pressure, all you're doing is steaming the jars, if you're cooking grains you'll discover it soon enough.

any text book about autoclaveing things will mention that 15psi for 60minutes is what it takes to starilize things. 7-10psi is just wasting your time as it wont starlize any thing becouse it wont get hot enough no matter how long you let it sit. http://missvickie.com/workshop/table.html
You need at least 250F to starilize any thing. 235 wont stiarlize any thing even if you left it like that for a week. I bet your rig is only getting up to 200F.

im sure its safe, he doesn't need a helmet, Im pretty sure the pc's that work(mine for ie)that do hit 15 psi are much more dangerous, f.y.i. most high esplosives, in a schedule 40 pvc pipe wont go past 500,000 psi....

This is not quite correct. Any temperature in and slightly above the range of the water boiling point will kill most of the nasties. MOST.
If you want MORE (=nearly all) you have to go with a higher temperature.
It is very difficult to COMPLETELY sterilize anything even at 250?F.

I have used old PCs with the same problem. They do let too much steam escape and have boiled dry on me before. I put a small bit of silicone sealant on the metal rims and allowed to cure for 3 days. Then but vegetable oil on the rubber gasket. Do not mess with pressure cookers unless you know what you are doing. They are extremely dangerous.
Putting sealed bottles of vodka that boil at about 85C on a heater at 121C is not recommended!
