Want to Dive into Reishi

So I recently found some Reishi growing on it's own around a dead decaying tree stump at my home and it sparked enough curiosity to make me want to grown my own. I know I should probably start off small, but I am a stickler for following protocol and am certain that I would do will with a bulk grow. Could someone with experience in growing this strand help me out with what I should do? I have my own house, garage, and pleny of room (as well as 3 dead tree stumps on my property) and I live in south texas if that makes a difference.

The very first thing I would do is buy a copy of Paul Stamets' Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms. Read it cover to cover. It is the seminal work on the knowledge that you seek, and there is a chapter dediated to reishi culture. Haven fun and good luck, edibles are a fun hobby!

Thanks. I have identified some rieshi growth on a decaying tree stump on my property, but I fear for its safety because it is exposed to the elements. We have gotten down to 34F this week, but they growth seems to be ok. It is 56F today. Is it possible to clone from the white puffs in its early stages of growth?

it is possible to clone from the little white bubbles of growth, providing they give you ample area to clone from in the sterile inner tissue areas. Reishi is one of the more difficult to clone mushrooms, because its flesh is so tough and rubbery that it is hard to quickly cut the tissue off and transfer to waiting dish. You'll do fine though if you know going into the process that the tissue is a bit tough to cut into. Once on the plate it'll row very fast, especially if you get a seed warmer mat and put it at 80 degrees F. Hope that helps! Light and Love, JD

i agree with JD, they are very tough, when you do cut out you clone section make sure you soak them in h202 solution for a few minutes before applying it to your plates. peace siam
