General sterylization questions:::

I tried to search, but I guess noone is as dumb as i am to ask this I hear alot about sterilizing. When you spawn into straw or dung or whatever, you don't need to sterilize that do you? I mean A) It's shit, and B) doesn't sterilizing kill some nutrients as well? And I assume any sort of chemical sterilization is out of the picture, because the lingering chemicals would kill the spores, no? I inquire about the dung mostly because my neighbor has a 12 acre black Angus pasture So I have basically unlimited resources for the dung. I guess I just need to know if anything special needs to be done with the Pooh before i spawn anything into it. Thanks for any input.

Apparently, you need to search around and read the manure teks a little bit more. Manure gets pasteurized, while grains get sterilized. It's a difference of about 70 degrees. Pasteurization is much lower and retains a lot of the nutrients that could otherwise be killed during sterilizing.

Yes, something special does need to be done to your poo before you spawn anything into it. You need to pasteurize it - not sterilize it. There are many teks for pasteurizing, just do a search.
I don't really know how much weight the letter "A)" holds above...yes, it certainly is shit...but that doesn't mean that it's free of harmful bacteria that will kill mycelium and possibly even cause harm to you. By pasteurizing, you're killing the harmful bacteria, but leaving the beneficial bacteria alive. By no means should you ever spawn anything to anything without first taking steps to ensure that all potential harmful bacteria has been killed.

Sterilizing or pasturizing neither diminish nutrient content. You'll want aged manure not fresh, theres a big difference!

Wait, does sterilization actually decrease nutrients? I thought it just killed all the beneficial microbes that pasteurization let live? Does this mean that Blue Helix's bulk substrate bag tek in which the poo/straw/compost is sterlized in a PC results in a less nutritious substrate than if it had pasteurized?

No not at all that must be a typo? The only affect between the two is the bacteria killed.
