Water in WBS Jars
    #5320919 - 02/20/06 05:51 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I used Doc's WBS Tek to make some WBS jars. I was looking at some other teks and I see that in the "Fool Proof Birdseed Method - Technique" the author says to add water to the jars after putting the grain in them (fill them about 1/2 with water). I didn't see this in the other tek I used, is this neccesary or am I reading it wrong? Ive already inoculated these jars (less then 12 hours from this post), could I still add the water (if needed).

turboman above is correct, that procedure is if you do not soak OR simmer your WBS. I've tried the eyeballing no soak pressure cooking grains method and tend to use it half the time now. In theory, though, not soaking opens you up to all sorts of contaminants that are dormant and not as easily killed by heat as if they were soaked. I wouldn't try it without a 15psi pressure cooker
