Hey all. Is rye supposed to be so clumpy right outta the pc? i thought it was supposed to shake and instead its mostly just a bug clump o' rye.

Yeah that does not sound right.
Once the PC has cooled enough and give them a good shake while still hot to distribute the moister.
But that sounds like there might have been to much.

You're supposed to shake it while it's still hot out of the PC to break up the grains. If they still won't break up, you probably used too much water and made rye crispie treats .

I pressure cook them, then shake about 30-40 minutes after its done pressure cooking. You need to break up the clumps and distribute the moisture evenly. If you just let them cool, without shaking, then you'll have clumps.

yea, i have had this happen with WBS,
what method are you using? Shake-a, shake-a, shake-a...
too much clumping = too much water.

Maybe not beong drained enough before PCing??? I get that alot... I have a bad tendency to cut short on draining time and end up having water pooling in the bottom of my mycobags after PCing... Too much moisture, spungy grain, higher chances of contams.

Are you rinsing the rye well, before loading jars?
Are you allowing the grain to drain well, before loading jars.
Soak & simmer, did a lot of grains burst?
Did you soak, and/or soak & simmer to long.
Are you "shaking" asap, out of the PC?
Most times, if you get unshakable solid CLUMPS.
One, or a combo of the above is most often the cause.
Don't soak, or soak & simmer to long. (gets you sticky mushy grains and/or burst grains)
Rinse once soaked or soaked & simmered. (to remove sticky sludge & starches)
Drain well (otherwise you get excess moisture in the jars)
Don't simmer to long (gets you bursted grains)
