So i have come across a small business opportunity and i want to take advantage of it. i was just wondering what i have to do so no one can steal my idea and profit from it. also this would be a short term thing so i would like to keep it tax free so how would i do that? would i just take cash/money orders or can i also use paypal? I guess i would open up a site but it would be pretty basic. it has nothing to do with the shroomery btw. not trying to sell spores or anything.

You're trying to sell spores aren't you!

You would have to either patent it or copyright it. Filing a copyright normally runs 2-300 bucks. Then you'll have to file for tax-free status, which I'm not sure is possible for a for-profit business. A business attorney would probably be helpful.

I think you can search the copyright archives online. Simply by stating a slogan, you have common law trademark rights to it (ie you can write "TM" by it), but if someone ever violates your trademark, then you would have to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt in court that you used the slogan first. Notary publics are useful. Getting an official copyright will ensure that no one can use your slogan, but they are quite pricey.

Just stay away from those rip-off idea-patent places.

It's fine so long as whoever the first person to use it was doesn't notice and get pissed.
