CaCO3 substitutes?
    #530790 - 01/25/02 04:18 AM (22 years, 2 months ago)

Tried to find CaCO3, but only found BaCO3 and NaCO3. Can any of those be used?

No.
Have you tried searching for limestone?

Yes,
actually I have.
I went to the largest gardenstore we have here. They said - "No we don't have CaCO3 or any other thing that permanently raises the PH in the soil. Only temporary (by having some other thing (actually a metal) that slowly breaks down the PH-rasing-substance). Call the the Paint-Shop they should have it"
And I did. I asked for chemicals that could be used to raise the PH level in soil. They said NaCO3 and BaCO3. So, that's the story. I'm in the search for cheap CaCO3.

Thanks!

Actually they also said _why_ they didn't have it. -"Most flowers love low PH (peat PH). A very small subset of all flowers likes high PH."

Here
http://www.lef.org/prod_hp/php231.html
you get 1 kilo calcium carbonate for 10 dolars, which is rather expensive, but at least it?s there.

That too much money for me.
However, I called outside town and found a substance containing this (I know magnesium is bad for the mushies):
88.2% CaCO3
11.8% MgO and CaO (unknown ratio)
Called "lime" (translated). Too much Mg?
