Easy humidity, warmth, cheap

I saw this in another thread while doing a search and it struck me as being tits on ritz for a cheap solution.
Those candle warmers/beverage warmers....with a glass of water on it...good stuff mang.
I had one on hand to use, but they are available at you favorite supplier of chinease goods....wally mart....for....ready... $2.95. This one is even better...it has high and low. The other one I have is all high...the water temp is 130F.
Better than a $25.00 aquarium heater, no?

nope, I don't think so. You can regulate the heat and it has to be replaced heat @106 can cause the mycelium to die.
Believe or not the aquarium heater is the best thing to regulate the heat.
I did not read your post correctly at first, but yes it could work.
There is often not a right way but what works.

the heat in the box is not 130, the water in the glass is. The box is fluctuating between 84 and 88 degrees. It's far enough from jars not to radiate. It's working OK so far, but thos damed aquarium heaters are not cheap.
So far as I can tell from this crappy hygrometer, I am about 75%, but I am beginning to think that digital hygrometers are NOT acurate at all. I just ordered a masons hygrometer...I'm tired of playing with the digitals.

While I am at it and you are here Snaggletooth...I know the incubation temperature perameters for incubation, and the terminal temperature of the myc, but what is the MAX you would push temps? 90? 95? And while humidity is not needed in incubation, what are the effects of keeping it higher? Help to keep the jars from drying out in the later stages of incubation?
sooooo many questions....sooo little time...

I can appreciate your concern, but a can assure you that any time I mix water, eletricity and heat, I am using a GFCI device to protect my home and myself. I was an electrician for 6 years.

Higher temp with high humidity is a breeding ground for molds.

humidity in the incubation chamber is not a good idea. it will expose your jars to a higher chance of contamination

Although this isn't the best heating solution, it sounds like a cheap one with a buncha bang for the buck. For the poor folks this is a good idea. But I definitely wouldn't call it "Tits on Rits"
