question about light exposure

can P cubensis be exposed to too much light?
Is there any reason (other than cost saving) to not expose my FC to light 24x7?
Also, is one energy saving bulb adequate? (13 watt, emulates 45 watt blue light)

12 hours on, 12 hours off is more than enough.
Light is a minor factor in pinning. Right now I just grew a whole batch in the dark, maybe 1/2 hour of light per day. It wont make a HUGE difference but pinsets and flushes will be a little better with the 12/12 light cycle.
Shrooms also grow towards the light.

If this is your first time growing, worry more about FAE (fresh air exchange) RH (relative humidity) and temperature. If you feed your shrooms tons of oxygen, they will fucking love you.

Light during pinning can make a huge difference in pin count! The dark perid is very important also this is a time when carbs are processed the most and is when they grow the most. During pinning not only light duration but intensity do make a difference, now by intensity were not talking HID but decent lighting. Light is as important to pinning as is fresh air exchange what is overrated is temp drop it really only need be 10 degrees optimally. The timing of your pin initiation will also have a major affect on pin count (yield) overall. The reason some say light is minor is because they read that only milliseconds of exposure is needed to initiate pinning while this is true they fail to realize that they are talking minimal light to induce pinning not the light requirements needed to produce huge pinsets. 12.12 is all u need light is only need to start the mushies to grow, and in the rigth direction (where light is located)

does anyone forsee any problems to putting a 9volt battery taped to a little light bulb in a small terrarium??? im worried it will get wet and short causing mushroom electricution. I would of course tape all the leads to prevent this as best i can....

I do.

Good concern, although starting a fire and shocking myself would be more of a concern than electrocuting the fungus.

A 9volt battery will not electrocute your mushrooms, start a fire, or shock you (unless you lick the terminals). I will grant you that if you stand a 9volt on the table, place a quarter on top of the terminals, and cover it with tinder, you might get a fire. But, any short caused by moisture will quickly dry from the resulting heat generated. You'll go through a LOT of batteries unless you use LEDs instead of "little light bulbs", though.

Just buy a ton of blue LEDs of eBay. whatever you do, don't go buying any at Radio Shack or any other electronics store. For the price of 2 LEDs at RS, you can get 50 on eBay from Hong Kong.
