Reviews and Impressions from the
2006 LSD Symposium
Basel, Switzerland
Submitted by Conference Attendees
Jan 2006

The LSD Symposium "Problem Child and Wonder Drug", held in Basel Switzerland January 13th-15th, 2006 was an enormous success. It was held on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Albert Hofmann, the man who first synthesized and ingested LSD. There were over 2,000 total attendees, dozens of speakers (including Albert Hofmann) and a strong showing from the world press.

Erowid participated in the conference as a patron and media partner. Earth and Fire gave a talk on Saturday titled "Current Views of Acid: What do LSD Users Say?" in which they presented the results of a series of surveys they conducted on the Erowid.org website asking questions about people's use and views of LSD.

We are hoping to provide a space for people to share their experiences from the symposium with those who were unable to attend. If you attended the conference and have photos, recordings, comments, or conference reviews you'd like to share, please consider submitting them here. We will be putting together a public archive of the event from these submissions.

Looks damn good for being a century.

And that Alex Grey painting is sooo good.

And why is Robert Anton Wilson not in that painting!?

OMG, Shulgie and Hoffie all in one post,  'tis supah!  I knew Shulgin (my superhero) was getting up there, but I had no idea Hofmann made it to 100.  Sweeet!  :werd:

Living proof of the power of a healthy mind over the domain of the body. Hell, if I can kick it at a cocktail party with a glass of chardonnay at 100, bring on the hits baybee. I love those guys! *hugz*

J. Edgar Hoover, I just noticed that one on the list, hah. Reminds me of the faboo line from Clue the movie:

"Why is J. Edgar Hoover on your phone?!"
"I dunno, he's on everyone else's, why shoudln't he be on mine?!"

And then of course there's:

"Well is the FBI in the habit of cleaning up after multiple murders?"
"Of course, why do you think it's run by a man called Hoover?!"

Booyah! LOL

Yes, but do you think that they would get Dante's inner-most circle of Hell?  Ya know, chomped for eternity in the mouth of the Beast along with Judas Iscariot and who is it, Brutus the betrayor of Caeser, if I have it right?  Quite frankly I think we need to revise Dante's Circles of Hell, there are just too many bad folk out there these days to be stuffing into the Beasts's mouth. (Dayum, Enron would need their own dedicated Circle.) But I digress and apologize!  ANYWAY!

Indeed Beautiful photos and work, kudos!

Well I thought that was pretty obvious to anyone with a functional cerebral cortex. I don't want to bang Hofmann, but I find his and Shulgin's pictures to be very beautiful and inspiring on many levels.

I can't believe one would even try to take this thread down that path, ROFL! Idiocy certainly does have a way of making itself readily apparent.

"Res ipsa loquitur." Suspect, indeed. Thanks so much for the help by the way, my years of confusion have suddenly all been resolved.

Anyone so insecure with their sexuality that they have to qualify statements they make with "no homo" are either way too influenced by rap music or they are a closet homosexual.

Why did anyone reply to the "no homo" comment made in this thread? It should have been ignored. Now we've gone way, way off track here. Now about Albert Hofmann...........

Man, he's really good looking for such an old fellow! What a great guy.

I've yet to experience LSD first hand, but have read endless articles about it. Even just reading about LSD gives me shivers. Wow, cool stuff.

Who among you knows who #16. Dock Ellis is and why he is there?

Funny McKenna would put Leary in there. I recently read an interview with Hoffman and he seems to rather despise the man. Don't remember where it was. My guess is the NYTimes.

Dock Ellis threw the "no hitter" while on LSD. As for Leary, I doubt the painting has anything to do with who Hofmann liked or disliked.

Didn't think there were that many sports fans. Given a largely male group of this size I'm kinda surprised there isn't a sports forum but I figured it was natural selection. I don't quite get it. I've done some of my best stuff in sports while.......You just gotta pick the right ball to catch. Usually it's the first one.
