never had a problem with it and ive always used just a liberal amount of foil crinkled around the top of the jar

u sure can... i think one of the Teks called for that even. dont recall which one. if someone would ask what works better... foil outsite - foil inside - or both?? who knows try one of each and see if u get any variation. although i doubt you will.

If your doing WBS then you only need one hole for inoculation and one hole for gas exchange - you shake the jar to distribute the spores after innocultaion anyway, so there is no need for multiple injections. You can also use just the one hole for gas exchange and inject through the filter.
If you need to cover your injection holes, electrical tape works nicely and holds up very well to pressure cooking.

I prefer to use Tyvek. You can get it for free at any post office if you in the US. Just walk into one and they have them sitting out free to grab. They're labeled as priority mail envelopes and say that they are made of Tyvek. With this there is no need to cover up any of the holes that are existing with tape. Just cut the Tyvek into squares and put them inbetween the lid and the ring. inoculate through one of the holes, and then put a round band-aid on your inoculation point. Theres no need for foil with this method or tape to cover up any exisiting holes, while still allowing for gas exchange.

You can also use polyfil for the holes. Maybe I misunderstood, but you certainly dont just want foil on top. Foil on top of some other filter material keeps water off during PC'ing, but foil will not stop any contams from getting inside during colonization.
