bad spores--what to do now?
    #5314731 - 02/18/06 09:41 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

i have some shitty spores that i got and inoculated a good 2 months ago, the jars have been half colonized for the past month and nothing has happend since. still only half, i know you're not supposed to fruit the cake when not fully colonized but could i somehow case them all in one casing. i have six half colonized jars with hawaiian....?? any other suggestions, or should i just keep waiting??

Well it does not sound like the spores are a problem.

What's in the jars?

:tongue2:

If the spores GERMINATED & were not CONTAMINATED............

They are GOOD.

Jar content or moisture level sounds off, to me.

Flipping PF cakes upside down (onto the lids) can help. Give it a try.
We need more details, what are you inoculating? Incubation temps, etc

sounds like your cakes stalled. this is commen with pf. I think it has to do with the cakes being so dense and not geting enough gas exchange. but I am sure that I am worng never did the pf tek.

spores are not your problem! if you ngot anything to germinate them you or your mixture are the problem. sounds like your mixture is too dry. this can be caused by excessive heat not enough moisture when initially mixing the ingrediants or perhaps.

when you get use to this hobbie you won't mess that up again.

what you want to do is clean off a knife with some alcohol and then cut away any un colonized parts of the cake. crumble the oparts that you have or spawn it to some horse poo. good luck.

p.s. it couyld also be co2 build up in the jars, some people fluipm the jars upside down for a day to see if they continue to grow. if they do not grow that is a sign of moisture content being off.
