Incubation, now with pix
    #5313913 - 02/18/06 04:49 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Finally fixed my frigging Digicam, I swear that thing was pissing me off right and left.

Basically its just a wood crate that sits atop one of my electric oil heaters. the temp is kept at 84 to 88 degree's

Fruiting chamber thats in my closet off to the side. Perlite on the bottom of course and the grating so that the cakes will not sit directly on the perlite.

Jar #1. this jar has only 2 holes drilled into the top of it, yet its the most developed out of the 4.

This one was done a week after the first, I decided to add 1 cup of verm to 1 cup of water to 1 cup of BRF. fours holes on the top.

Jar #2 with 4 holes in it.

88 degrees is a little high. Try incubating at around 80-84 degrees incase of a heat spike. Sometimes the inside of the jars will be a little warmer too.

Everything looks good so far.

How do you plan on fruiting those cakes?

Well they're nowhere near getting ready to be birthed, I think that somtime next month will be pretty good.

I see. Well when that time comes around, if you plan on birthing them as cakes, I would suggest dunking them in distilled water for 24 hours and then rolling them in dry vermiculite. Then lightly mist the cakes until the vermiculite looks moist and you should have a very nice first flush. Then repeat for 2nd and 3rd flushes.

I've heard of people using spring water over distilled. Perhaps somone could enlighten me as to what the big diffrence would be. Other then Distilled water not having the iron and such the only other thing is that perhaps distilled water is 'cleaner" then the spring water.

Even tap water works great. My personal favorite method of dunking is to use running water. Just put a cake or casing in a tub and let the sink faucet fill it up until it starts to run over. Allow the water to overflow and run down the drain slowly overnight. The running water prevents bacterial growth during the dunk. If using still water for the dunk, I'd recommend using 1/2 teaspoon of bleach per gallon of dunk water. Personally, I've never felt a need to use either distilled or spring water for dunking. If your local water supply is polluted however, it might make a better choice.
