Internal Heat for Casings/Cakes.
    #531212 - 01/25/02 04:46 PM (22 years, 4 months ago)

I am probibly not the only one to think of this, but it MIGHT be a great way to supply heat to cakes/casings. Basically you would put the tubes (small tubes like the ones used for air pumps) in place before adding substrate or casing materials. Then you can run water heated with a aquarium heater through the tubes to maintain a certain temperature. Also the heater could be turned off and ice could be added to lower the water temperature to induce pinning. Here is a diagram of what a jar would look like.
This would simulate the ground temperature changing in natural environments. The increase in temp should speed colonization time and if the heat is turned off and ice is added the cooler temps should induce fruiting.

Any thoughts? Anyone ever try this?

I keep my casings at 66-69 farenheit continuosly, save for the occasional cold shock, and I get great shrooms. Not to be a dick or anything, but is this contraption really needed? To cold shock i just take my trays and put em in the fridge.
