Trip Movies!
    #531161 - 01/25/02 03:45 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

My friend was coming down from mushrooms not long ago and happened to have rented a french movie by the name of "Man bites dog" - freaking hilarious trip movie and funny on its own. Also discovered wonderful trip candy - starburst lollypops. They are just the right amount of sweet and sour and he ate a whole bag during the movie and consequently tore up the roof of his mouth.

Also go to morpheus and download any ali-g skits that you can get your hands on - great for tripping. Also the borat's guide to britain and austrian reporter. Ali-G movies can also be downloaded from lando's stinking hole web site. I forgotten the address but just search for that and you will find it.

The best all time trip movie IMHO is Princess Mononoke, followed by Fear and Loathing, followed by the soprano's series.

Other good light hearted trip movies for when you don't want to get anything too harsh (besides alice IWL) are the wes anderson movie "bottle rocket" and the woody allen movies "husbands and wives" "mighty aphrodite" "Sweet and Lowdown" and others by WA.

Also, for those who have jobs and are worried about testing and don't want to toke after tripping to ease the comedown, I highly suggest sipping on beer or wine because the feel of the combination of the waning shrooms and the oncoming buzz combine to give a very euphoric effect.

good call on the beer or wine (cold wine will do me nicely during/after a trip)... but as far as movies, i can never concentrate on them... on a recent trip i watched fear & loathing about three hours after peaking, so i had already been coming down. at least at that point i could understand what was going on, but i was so wasted i just wanted to sleep =P

Yellow Submarine is trippy and a lot of fun to watch, but I actually get somewhat depressed by it for some reason, and I wouldn't take it on a trip. Same with Alice, alice is really dark and put me on a really bad full eighth trip a while back.

For a trip movie I would highly suggest Dazed and Confused just because it has such a more realistic happy vibe to it, I had one of the best trips in my life by starting it out watching the movie. Sure it isn't trippy but it's just a chill movie.

This is all IMO of course, everybody finds each movie different

yup, I mean, the theme of the movie is of course happy and good-vibed but personally I find the animations to be quite depressing ...

things in my head are different than most peoples, what most people may find happy I find sad, and vice versa. I need a complete, constant happy theme with NOT ONE possible thing that could depress me, such as a depressing color, etc, and for me Yellow Sub has a lot of them. Good movie sober, excellent animation, but not for me on a trip. Most cartoons are unenjoyable for me on a trip, though I really don't know why, this is just how my brain is wired ...

If you can get a hold of any old Gumby episodes, try em. One of my friends gave me a tape called Gumby for president and it's absolutely fantastic. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, and that's when you're stone sober. When you're on mushrooms, it's a bizarre and creepy thing. I think sometimes that programming like Gumby has seriously affected the attention spans of those who grew up watching it, and started a downward spiral which has today yielded programming like MTV's TRL, in which even a 3 minute music video is chopped down cause it's too long to hold the viewers. Does that make sense to anyone else? Playing the first half of ten different songs?

Slapnuts you just reminded me of that freaking gumby flick! That is fucking awesome, my friend has never seen that tripping but he will as soon as possible. He has seen it sober and you are definitely right about it making no sense whatsoever. He saw it once drunk and laughed his ass off with his girlfriend because it was so bizarre. Now that is one I bet most people haven't seen - good tip.

Most of the Yellow Submarine is positive. Overly positive, positive images (Like "Love", and "YES") and just a whole lot of silly stuff that makes you laugh while tripping. Did you know my cousin is the bluebird of happiness?

my favs... 1. the wall 2. Half Baked 3. Fear of Loathing in Las Vegas 4. Alice in Wonderland 5. Yellow Submarine
I usually only watch movies on the comedown. I get bored with movies at my peak, only if it doesnt have much music. Got to have nice, clear music.

I can recall only one time having the patience to sit down for 2 hours on a trip to watch a movie, and actually it was at the start so the shrooms didn't kick in until the end. Anyway, I was watching Mystery Science Theatre 3000! It's the funniest show and I had a blast, even though the movie was horrible, I didn't care, because I was too busy watching the spectograms in the background!

I once watched Se7en when I was really stoned, that was pretty interesting, to say the least.

Your the first person I seen ever to mention that movie. I loved TETSUO II Bodyhammer. I saw it first in the theatre without knowing anything about it. I still havn't got to see the first one though. I'll have to order it, because the video stores suck where I live. I've been trying to remember that movie name for a few years now. Thanks

I will check out tetsuo roger but you have to promise to try fear and loathing again while on acid. It is absolute shit sober, worthless, but when you are on acid it clicks together like an extension of your mind. It was directed by Terry Gilliam, a member of Monty Python, who is well known in England to have been a steady LSD user. Acid trips are 9-10 hours long. I suggest having some fun for the first 4 hours or so but give it a shot around hour five with some friends who are also tripping and you will not forget the first time you see fear and loathing tripping.

Apocalypse Now on DVD and with surround sound.

Absolutely incredible. The helicopters feel like they are in the backyard, the gunshot are going off in the kitchen, the playboy bunnies are sitting by you, and dont forget, "the horror, the horror."

A must see whilst tripping thine balls off.

I highly suggest that you go to the nearest video retailer and spend 7.99 and pick yourself up a copy of OUTKAST: BOMBS OVER BAGDAD! You will never look at these guys the same again. This video is totally made with tripping in mind. The colors man, the colors! Pure creative genius! I don't like to watch t.v. while tripping because it stunts your creative ability, but i'll pop this vid in and watch it three or four times. it really kickes the trip into gear! If anyone else has experienced this shit let me know

Miss,

I bought Fantastic planet online at www.moviesunlimited.com They have both vhs and dvd.

The movie is actually about a race of blue giants called Traags who keep a human-like race called Oms as domesticated pets for their children. One of them escapes with a Traag learning device and meets up with a group of savage Oms and uses the knowledge in a revolt against the Traags.

This is must own for anybody who likes psychedelic animation.

peace

You should get the Big Lebowski.  And whatever 'legrouper' may say, Fear and Loathing is a must-see, also when sober

yellow submarine on weed [Re: Zahid]
    #542621 - 02/06/02 02:31 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

my first or second most intense weed came from watching yellow submarine.

Me and my friend theorized that the people who created yellow submarine were people from an alternate universe and whenever something didn't make sense (like the sky being chairs or something crazy and insane like that) it would just be because that was such a fundamental truth that they didn't even consider the fact that the sky wouldn't be like that.
Like if we made a movie and tried to adapt it to another reality but we implemented, say, gravity. In the other universe gravity would have no meaning to them so it would be all weird and tripped out.

Never tried watching it on anything else, but i will soon. heh heh heh...

The best ever tripping movie is "The Holy Mountain". You can't get it legally, you have to get it from an import dealer. It's well worth it. I can post links if anyone is interested in buying it.

I never said anything bad about Fear and Loathing! I am the biggest F & L fan in the world, I watch it once every two weeks. I was just explaining that even after loving the movie so much I could understand that someone who was watching it sober could not relate to it and not make any sense of it. I watched it the first time sober and it just didn't click. Like I didn't get any of the reoccuring themes like when he is on the phone at the hotel and talking about the girl whose adrenal glands got cut out and then later when they do adrenochrome. When I was sober it was like I was standing on a giant masterpiece and I couldn't comprehend its greatness but when I saw it tripping I could see it from a distance and take in all its glory. And now when I see it sober it makes much more of an impact. F & L is a piece of art, not a movie, it is to be appreciated, not watched.

And Lebowski is definitely great trip material.

It's not really illegal to have a copy of The Holy Mountain, it's just never been released offically. You have to get a bootleged copy of it, as it was released on laserdisc in Japan and that's about it. The rights to it are owned by Allen Klien, who manged the Beatles during their later years. He refused to release it to video. I think he died, and now the rights are lost in some wierd legal tangle, and the director is trying to get good copies of the film for a DVD release. Allen was such an asshole, he stored the original negative print someplace where it just rotted away.

I got my copy from these guys:

http://www.videoscreams.com/

Their website is annoying as hell, but they have the cheapest prices. Any good import dealer should have this film. I can post links to other dealers if anybody neads them.

OK yall...the real deal is the TWILIGHT ZONE, without it, there would be no stephen king, or X files. The Twilight Zone opened the pathway for others to come...I get fucking goosebumps from these shows every time!! No other show can do that for me, thats because there is really no other show like it. Any of you who have seen the good episodes of it know what i'm talking about. I know some people who immediatley dismiss it, simply cuz its in black and white, but after i force them to watch it, they realize what a creepy, eerie, and even freaky show it really is, and the fact that it's in black and white makes it more authentic and even more surreal and creepier. Thank god for Rod Serling, he was a man ahead of his time. I hope someone out there who can appreciate the originality of the Twilight Zone will make a new series of it, hopefully in black and white too...

Yes, Princess Mononoke is the ultimate trip movie... the best Nature themes ever, beautiful animation... i love the forest spirits!!! I've also seen The Haunting in the theater on about an 1/8, that was damn fun, esp the scene in the bedroom when the face appears in the walls and cieling... I also saw Phantom Menace, but that was super gay. I couldn't stop laughing at that stupid little kid. The podrace was cool, but way too long, way too bad of acting. oh, and i assume the end of Contact would be too good for words.. even the dolby wormhole intro at a movie stunned me. Fantasia 2000 is a must, esp the last piece-good vs bad. simplistic natural themes is the best. no doubt

Heavy Metal. Anybody who hasn't seen this, get yourself I psychadelic and see it. If you do not know what it is about don't find out. Just watch it for the first time tripping.
My friend saw it his first time on DXM and he said it was one of the most phenominal experiences of his life. I must agree with him.

I just gotta say all you fucks how said stupid shit like, "Fear and Loathing is utter crap sober" or "I didn't get Fear and Loathing until I saw it tripping" are fucking morons! You obviously missed how great this story really is. You probably still don't understand what its really about and just think you know because you watched it tripping.

You fucks are the same lame-wads that say The Wall doesn't make sense unless you are tripping.

I put a curse on all of you. YOU SUCK!

My movies [Re: sir tripsalot]
    #563240 - 02/26/02 12:34 AM (22 years, 26 days ago)

Normally i can't sit down and watch movies while tripping, I have a problem with paying attention during them, those that I have seen while tripping though are "Rammstein: Live Aus Berlin" and "Fantasia 2000". All i have to say is Fantasia 2000 was great, i watched it once with the music on the video and once with a whole lot of ambient techno going in the background, great both times, the scene with the whales flying was awesome. With Live Aus Berlin it was pretty cool, I actually forgot that they were singing in German after a while, it got boring though and i stopped watching.

I have a real thing for japanese stuff and since you guys mentioned Tetsuo, I have to say that the movie to watch would be Akira. It was just rereleased on DVD in the states and the animation is amazing. The movie is a bit intense, but definately an awesome movie. My fascination with japanese stuff while tripping probably has something to do with living there for six months and legal mushrooms. Still no movie compares to walking around downtown tokyo tripping balls. Everyone should try it sometime! -Coz

oh yeah, i meant to mention that the title of the movie Tetsuo is in reference to one of the main characters in Akira--Tetsuo. Oh, another good one that you guys should check out that would blow your mind is Akira Kurosawa's Dodes'ka Den. It's a crazy movie. I have never seen it tripping, but thought I was tripping while watching it. Tampopo would be another good one too. Took a japanese cinema class last semester so I am all about it right now. -Coz

Well, I don't know how I forgot about it before, but go get Akira Kurosawa's Dreams. It's a series of 8 little vignettes in Japanese that deal with a variety of things, they're absolutely gorgeous. The kind of thing you could watch with no sound while sober, just that beautiful. And Bjork's "All is Full of Love" video is cool as hell too...the robots look like actual living cyborgs rather than retarded low budget sci-fi props.

A friend told me about this movie Baraka that he saw on shrooms.
He said it was an amazing must see, here's a description.

Ron Frickes visual masterpiece, released in 1992, 93 minutes.
An incredible journey through 6 continents, 24 countries.

Baraka is an ancient Sufi word, which can be translated as "a blessing, or as the breath, or essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds."
For many people Baraka is the definitive film in this style. Breathtaking shots from around the world show the beauty and destruction of nature and man. Coupled with an incredible soundtrack including on site recordings of The Monks Of The Dip Tse Chok Ling Monastery.

Can't wait to check this out when I get some ca$h.

Some guy's opinion.
For me Baraka is the pinnacle of these films. The quality of the cinematography is outstanding. Shots flip from solitary Monks to crowded streets from great temples to images of war firing a hundred and one thoughts in your mind that you never complete.
The film is not just about what you are seeing. It is also about how it is presented. Shots of monks will make you grab your backpack and head for Asia as soon as the film finishes, but you never make it as the shots of post war Kuwait and the refuse dumps of Calcatta remind you that us humans are far from perfect.

more films like this

Here's a few good movies you should check out whether your tripping or not.

1. Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon
2. Alice in Wonderland with The Wall
3. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (read the book too!!!!)
4. Outside Out
5. What Dreams May Come
6. Requiem for a Dream (too intense for me, but makes good points)

I also agree with Floydian "The Twighlight Zone" episodes and Rod Sterling in particular are awesome!

The Howling 2 is my all time favorite trip movie .
It really should only be seen on shrooms.
I recommend any and everyone to check it out while shrooming at least once.
Definatly worth the 2 dollar rental at the local video store.

Akira, Fantastic Planet, Journey into the Mind's Eye. All excellent animae filcks.
No one liked matrix? I saw matrix on 3 grams when it first came out. Blew my mind. but I've seen it so many times that I doubt I'd see it shrooming/tripping again. The bass in the theater really fucked w/ my stomach.
Didn't know 'bout Tetsuo. Gotta check that out.

Groove was probably the worst movie I have ever seen. You practically have to be rolling to enjoy that one. "it's all about the nod dood!" LOL

Human Traffic was a much better and funnier movie. This movie actually had substance where as groove is just a movie for ate-ups to watch the morning after rolling their asses off.

I tend to like really intense movies and I must say one of the best trips I've ever had was when i watched "Very Bad Things" while tripping balls on Mushy. I felt like I was one of the characters. That scene when the guy starts getting ultra-paranoid at the gas station was unreal! The paranoia was just flowing from the screen. It was surprisingly a very enjoyable experience.

Requiem for a Dream is another very intense movie. I love it when a movie rocks my world like these did. Requiem was intense enough watching sober. I couldn't imagine what it would have been like if I watched it tripping.

Has anybody seen the movie "Where the Buffalo Roam"? It was the original movie made from the "Fear and Loathing" book. It has Bill Murray instead of Jonny Depp. I found one video store that carried it, but they said that it had been checked out and never returned. I want to see it, because I have read the book and seen the Jonny Depp movie about a million times, and I would love to see Bill Murray's take On Dr. Gonzo.

I've only ever sat down and watched a movie while tripping once, and that was Army of Darkness. Fuckin great. So hard to comprehend, it's just hilarious. The talking skeletons were fantastic.

Yeah I've seen that one a few times. It's not based on Fear and Loathing as mentioned. It's based on ....shit I can't remember which book it is. I think it's actually based on a collection of his works. It really doesn't have any central plot. After you watch this movie you are sitting there wondering what the hell it was suppossed to be about. Its pretty damned funny at times but there is no meaning or flow to it. It sorta jumps from one thing to the next without much explanation.

Bill Murray does a pretty good HST but personally I think Johnny Depps performance was much much better.

Its a pretty cool movie though, check it out sometime.

i watched Romeo and Juliet the other night (the one with leonardo dipacrio and claire danes) maaaaannnn, that movie is fucking made for tripping, weird shakespeareyin speech can be pretty funny and entertaining. its also extremly colorful which made it excellent to watch. and the different range of scenes(pure peaceful serenity to agonizing chaos) take you through a very cool range of emotions. everyone should give this one a try.

also, if you can get your hands on a copy of terrance mckennas "Alien Dreamtime"
then you should buy it and watch it while tripping, it's just pretty cool, and funny at times. i ordered a copy from amazon.com but it took them 2 months to find it.

I would say yes cause you can always stop it or put in a different flick if you get bad vibes from it.
End of days gave me a bad trip on acid but I switched it up and put in Saving private ryan then it was better:)

I can't believe no one's mentioned "The Way Things Go" yet.  EXCELLENT trip movie.  ( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0094300 ) A must see for trippers.  You'll probably have to buy it, as it's not available in many Video Rental stores, but it's worth it.  Let me know what you think!

For an intense time, try EBN - Emergency Broadcast Network - I think it can only be found on eBay and the like these days.
All spliced together soundbites, newsreels, government tapes, movies, etc. into music - pretty strong anti-media-controlling-your-life vibe -
not violent, but much imagery thrown at you quickly, brightly and loudly.

I found Yellow Submarine quite depressing too.....weird but true..... and those Blue Meanies scared the fuck out of me (ok ok they're not really that scary, but those manic grins and yellow teeth just put me off).... Oh and my art techer designed some of the backgrounds to the movie!........... The best ever movie exxperience I've had though is watching "Midnight Express" (you know that american guy who got inprisoned for life in a Turkish prison). The movie is pretty trippy by itself but but watching it just after the peak of your shroom experience is extremely rewarding and very interesting (appart from the American patriotic bullshit that ruined ruined the movies reputation........ why the fuck do americans have to carry their own flag up their ass...... sorry this topic can get to me). Also french english and generally independant movies are great (coz they're mad for the sake of the movie... not money)

Where the Buffalo Roam is an alright movie but nothing compared to Fear and Loathing. It doesn't have the visual effect that Fear and Loathing has and its not the same story line, but there are a few similar scenes... its interesting to see how they are interpreted differently and how the actors portray the characters. Johnny Depp definately took a lot away from how Bill Murray acted or maybe just the character is that specific in the book... i dunno b/c i've never read it.

Anywho, i know its not a movie, but they take too long anyways unless your waiting for a drug to kick in that takes a while.... Ren and Stimpy is pretty fucked up to watch.

Awesome movies, but they could just confuse you:
momento
2001
pi
requem
scarface (so long though!)

eventhough in my opinion everymovie is fuct up when ur tripping...

The movie Koyaanisqatsi is amazing for a more contemplative trip. The stop-motion animated films of the Brothers Quay are mindblowing while sober... while tripping they're a whole new deal. Go for a collection of their short films. The shorts "Street of Crocodiles" and "The Comb (from the Museum of Sleep)" are my personal favs... if you're easily disturbed, though, best to stay away. Watch it sober first to make sure.

Ok here are some Movies that are What We all are looking for...

They are must see's Period...

There may be redundences but I dont care....

I also hope many of you READ books....as they will help you understand films and extract so much more out of them....Hence causing you to re-watch all other films you have ever seen...

Altered States....-- Truely mind blowing....The ending is kinda patched together and does not do the film justice...many problems with the making of this film....two directors and ETC...but its subject line is without doubt one that will shake and rattle you to your core....

BOTH
2001 & 2010---If you know then you know and you will watch them anyway because you have forgotten about them.....For you first time watchers....pay attention ...and if you are not in TEARS after watching both of them then you did not GET the films and you must watch them again....

Akira-- One of the best films ever made no questions....Watch it...End of story

Spirited Away-- Even better then Akira-- as for the non violence---this film should also tugg your tear ducts....

(both above Anime are superior to Princess Monoke---if you liked that movie ((which is also a good one)) then you will be floored by those two above--especially with psilocin running in your veins....)

Fear and Loathing--Of course.....

Series 7- Nice, dark, and RAW.....if you are aware of the current reality the swarthy masses are heading in then you will get a kick out of this movie...It is the kind of movie that I kicked my self hard for not renting even though I had seen the box for over a year and a half....(it was BETTER then ALL other movies I had rented virgin)((aka never seen before))

Donnie Darko-- If you have read the Carlos Castinadea books then you will get a kick out of this film ...more so then everyone else who has not read those books....Good film...Also has some deep insights into REM mode...(thats all I will give you on this one ...if you pay attention to your reality you will know what I am talking about)

They Live-- One of my favorite films of all time....ever more so relevent today then when it was released BY FAR... Your HINT to this film my fellow psyconauts is the lenses of the glasses are called "HOFFMAN" lenses...!!EVERY ONE MUST SEE THIS!!

Dark Crystal-- a Classic Unnerving puppet show by Jim henson with a great story line for all ages...hmmmmmmmmm hmmmmm yesssss

SuperNova-- which you will find in the sci-fi section.....Nice story here....and if I am not mistaken there is a wierd sublime-ness to the dialog....

The Last Temptation of Christ-- Just watch it....you will see why...

-------

Let me know when you have seen all those....and I will divulge some more for your mind blowing entertainment times...

I think you really need to read H. Thompsons books and know a little about the man to understand the mayhem behind his novels. Fear and Loathing is a great film both cinematically and storywise.

No one has yet to mention the Animatrix. I thought it was very cool, especially "matriculated"- same animator as Aeon Flux. the trippy visuals are amazing and the subject of the robots getting a taste of their own medicine is so unique. I definitely reccomend it!!!

I thought Groove was good but it focused too much on the human aspect of raves and not enough on actual drug use

only one person has mentioned "Waking Life" This to me is probably the best movie to watch while tripping out. Not only is it eye candy, but the seemingly random thoughts put out in the movie really stimulate your own thoughts on life.

Hell yeah. The Animatrix was awesome. Better than reloaded imo. The best short was the last one, where they are trying to convert the robot to their side, trying to make it feel something for humans. I felt messed up just watching that. It was really out there.

BTW, what's up with the user ratings? Where'd my rating go?

Alright, I dont know if this has already been mentioned, but Kung Pow:Enter the Fist is absolutely glorious. I cant realy stand it sober, but when trippin, it was great....all the wierd voices and other random crap....it was the best! I recommend it completely.
Also, I think I saw this mentioned a while back, but Akira is rad, even when your not tripping, give it a try.

Ok, Sorry I'm new shrooms. I've enjoyed the wonderful trips that only shrooms can induce three times, and have had only great results. But by far if you are looking for something that will work your mind over in an ultimate way, Please Please spend the money and buy Pink Floyd- Pulse Live. It is a movie that is their live concert in London in 1995. I've enjoyed the whole concert completely twisted, and no one else can enhance at trip like Pink Floyd. For people not wanting to buy the movie (great investment), a few songs are on on the net for sharing on Kazza, and other programs. Comforatably Numb is the ultimate ride, and if you are in for some space travel download 2001 Space odassy, set to Pink Floyd. (Also downloadable on Kazza)

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I'm new..

It's been more than a few years since I tripped, but I can still clearly remember the very beginning of one movie I went to see on the big screen. 4-5 friends, on 2-3 hits of smooth LSD each.

Movie theatres are not for the faint of heart.  All those people whispering conversations before the show sounded like a bubbling brook with ripples of random babblings springing up all around you.

The movie was Spawn.

I had bought a soft drink because sipping and fidgiting with it usually gives me a tie back to reality.  The movie started with flames lighting up the screen which for me also enveloped the whole of the theatre.  This was accompanied by Orbital (Satan) blaring over the sound system.  Oh yeah!

When the credits started rolling, I realized I had a death grip on my drink which I had completely forgotten about.

The following Christmas Eve a friend and I split a half once of shrooms.  We were at his house and his parents were out of town.  I can't remember the name of the movie.  I want to call it Final Destination, but it's not about the kid with preminitions about his plane crashing.  It's about a SR-71 Blackbird pilot that crashes and he's having flashbacks of his life and of his last flight while having discussions with god (or was it his psychiatrist?) Anyone know what I'm talking about here?

I liked Fear and Loathing while I was sober because I could really feel for the characters since I've had the floor do really strange things, although I never encountered the bat problem.  Tron was excellent for a trip and nightmare before christmas is a great classic.

hmm, fight club was interesting last weekend.  I think it got my mind on the topic of mental dissorders though, ended up thinking i had a split personality...saw crouching tiger hidden dragon on the big screen my first time shrooming, that was badass
edit: forgot to mention peewees big adventure (very disturbing) and waking life.  ive seen waking life in many different states of mind and its always good food for thought.

Mutant Aliens is a great movie to see tripping. I accidentally caught it on TV while tripping and laughed so much my jaw hurt. You can see a trailer here. here.

I did love the talking cow, though...

Bump because this topic/thread will never be irrelevant!

I believe the best trip movie is one that you already love or the same genre/type. It doesn’t matter how psychedelic it is if you can’t get into it!

Depends heavily on my mood, but here’s a few of mine…
Most any rom-com
Up (in 3D)
The Wall
The Doors
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (in 3D)
Avatar
Click
Anger Management
Absolutely any nature documentary
The Mummy Returns
Coraline (in 3D)
Donnie Darko
