why is it so hard to find a good hygrometer?

Acuracy! I have three hygrometers. All in the same spot, and each with a different reading (off my 5 each). Two are analog and one is digital.
One of the analog ones doesn't even go above 70. (Cheapo from pet-smart.) I could submerge the sucker and it would go over.
The other analog came from wal-mart near the humidifiers. It goes higher but doesn't have good markings.
The digital also comes from wal-mart.
SO, I have read that cigar store hygrometers are good. Then again, I have also read that any analog hygrometer loses ALOT of accuracy after the 75 mark, even when it is calibrated.
And to calibrate a hygrometer, you use salt...and it stays at 75. So how do we know it is accurate after 75?
Basically, I am looking for some BRAND NAME suggestions of a good hygrometer that isn't going to break my bank.
Thanks!

I would suggest a taylor wet/dry bulb hygrometer, or I think they make digital ones but couldnt comment on their accuracy.

I think the problem is probably why is it hard to find a good hygrometer CHEAPLY.
Probably if you went into the few hundred dollar mark you would find accurate hygrometers from science suppliers. Things like these don't go cheap

Awesome! Good stuff!
That looks like a pretty big hygrometer, agar! I bet its accurate though. Thanks a BUNCH for the links.
And snaggle, do those two units work independently of each other or what?

E-bay has a few stationary psychrometers for sale right now at kickass prices. they don't get any more accurate than this. German made analogs are usually very high quality but bottom line is good ones are not cheap. Cigar hygrometers are junk in our hobby because you'll never store cigars above 70%.

The big unit is the Base, and the other is a remote for temp/RH
And you can have 3-4 remotes for one base.
